  • Season 3: Episode 3: Black History Month - Legendary Tuskegee Airman - Chief Master Sergeant William "Bill" Welborne - Teaches, Challenges, and Inspires Us!
    Feb 2 2023

    Send us a text

Tuskegee Airmen and Airwomen fought 2 wars, at home for civil rights and abroad to protect the civil liberties of all Americans. In this incomparable Black History Month episode of The Home Health Care Today Show, living legend, and Tuskegee Airman, Chief Master Sergeant William "Bill" Welborne invited us into his living room in Detroit to share a treasure trove of memories, insights, recollections, reflections, hopes, dreams, testimonies, and challenges. Chief Master Sergeant William "Bill" Welborne is an American Hero, Man of Honor, and a true friend.

He takes us through several of the highlights of his many journeys, triumphs, and disappointments while providing keys to encouraging all to live a life of hope, selflessness, courage, promise, and fortitude. Approaching the age of 90, he gracefully and at times painfully shares insights about being black in America then and now. Equally as important, we discuss mental, physical, and spiritual health and the many roles that women led and served in the Air Force throughout the early to late 20th century.

"The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African American military pilots (fighter and bomber) and airmen who fought in World War II. They formed the 332d Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group (Medium) of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). The name also applies to the navigators, bombardiers, mechanics, instructors, crew chiefs, nurses, cooks, and other support personnel. The Tuskegee airmen received praise for their excellent combat record earned while protecting American bombers from enemy fighters. The group was awarded three Distinguished Unit Citations. " (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuskegee_Airmen)

Without a doubt the US would have lost World War II without the diligence, bravery, ingenuity, and masterfulness of the Tuskegee Airmen. As so without the selflessness of Civil Rights heroes, ambassadors, and iconic figures (known and unknown) upward mobility and the pursuit of equality for BIPOC segments would be futile. But as for the Tuskegee Airmen and Airwomen... SALUTE!!!

Following the 6 key principles of the Tuskegee Airmen have proven beneficial, timeless, and invaluable. Please remember in all of your personal, professional, health, and wellness pursuits to do the following:

    1. AIM HIGH
    2. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
    3. USE YOUR BRAIN
    4. NEVER QUIT
    5. BE READY TO GO
    6. EXPECT TO WIN

The show's goal is to celebrate Black History Month; honor Chief Master Sergeant William "Bill" Welborne, and to inspire, influence, and educate listeners and viewers to apply the Tuskegee Airmen's 6 principles to life, health, and wellness.
