      Dec 13 2025

In this episode of The Fix Washington Podcast, Reps. John Ley and Peter Abbarno sit down under the dome to break down how Olympia’s growing taxes and regulations are hitting families and small businesses. From skyrocketing insurance costs to a state budget that keeps getting bigger, they cover what it means for your wallet.

They also dive into a new tax proposal introduced on Dec. 1 by Rep. Shaun Scott, D-Seattle. The bill would create a new “payroll excise tax” on employers — effectively an income tax on wages — modeled after Seattle’s JumpStart tax.
