This is the podcast where we go beyond the polished profiles and the LinkedIn headlines… and uncover the real stories behind the people.

The moments that shaped them.
The challenges they’ve faced.
And the journey that brought them to where they are today.

And of course… we’re doing it slightly differently, having the conversation from the back seat of a rather fabulous car.

Helen Nurse | Business, BRCA1, Reinvention & Building Through Life’s Toughest Moments
    23 Sep 2026
What does it really take to keep building a business when life keeps changing around you? In this episode of Beyond the Bio: Our Journey, Joanna Scott-Aspray sits down with Helen Nurse, entrepreneur, innovator and founder behind communication systems used to support organisations including the NHS. From building a business with her husband to navigating family health challenges, BRCA1, motherhood and constant reinvention, Helen shares the story behind more than 25 years in business. Helen reflects on starting out in television before deciding to build her own company, the pivots that followed as technology transformed the media landscape, and why staying in business has sometimes been the achievement she is most proud of. Helen also shares the deeply personal story of discovering that she carried the BRCA1 gene after a relative contacted her following her own breast cancer diagnosis. After being told she faced a significantly increased cancer risk, Helen made the decision to undergo preventative surgery — while also making one final decision that ultimately led to the birth of her third child, Charlie. After Charlie was born, Helen underwent surgery to remove her ovaries followed by a preventative mastectomy, describing her children as the driving force behind her determination to keep moving forward. Alongside the personal story, Helen explains how her business has evolved into chatbot technology and WhatsApp automation, helping organisations communicate in a way that is more personalised, intentional and useful to their audiences. Ultimately, Helen’s advice to other business owners is simple: trust yourself, stay in your own lane, keep taking action — but accept that you can’t do everything at once. An honest conversation about business, motherhood, health, resilience, technology and finding the strength to keep going when life doesn’t follow the plan. Dr Rathika Marsh | Stop Shrinking Yourself: Identity, Confidence & Spiritual Psychology
    23 Sep 2026
What happens when you stop living the life you think you should live — and start becoming the person you actually are? In this episode of Beyond the Bio: Our Journey, Joanna Scott-Aspray sits down with Dr Rathika Marsh, The Spiritual Psychologist, for a powerful conversation about identity, confidence, cultural expectations, spirituality, relationships and learning to fully own who you are. Rathika describes growing up between British life and traditional Sri Lankan values, struggling with belonging, low self-esteem and the pressure to fit a particular mould. Rathika opens up about the shame and suppression she carried into adulthood, the journey that led her away from conventional psychology, and why becoming more honest with herself completely changed the direction of her life and work. Rathika also shares how one brutally honest conversation transformed her relationship with her husband after more than two decades together, and why authenticity has become central to both her personal life and her work. Her message for anyone struggling with confidence is powerful: the parts of yourself you feel tempted to hide may be exactly what make you different. An open, funny and deeply personal conversation about identity, self-worth, spirituality, relationships, business and having the courage to stop shrinking yourself.
