The Black Forest sits northeast of Colorado Springs in the United States. In the early 1990s, one of those isolated houses began to behave as if it was awake when the family asleep. Lights glowed in locked rooms. Voices could be heard whispering and shadows crossed hallways with deliberate steps, pausing in doorways before slipping out of view. The temperature would change for no reason, doors opened by themselves, and metallic sounds echoed from the attic. The activity may have been subtle at first, then it became unmistakable. The forest may have remained silent. The house did not.
