    Feb 10 2026

8CCC Feature Album Minotaur was extended this week, just so we could have a chat with George Ivens! How the album came about, for George 'It's like gardening...you throw seeds out and you see what takes.' Minotaur ...is about self criticism, which ...most artists can resonate with...about the crushing weight of that...being able to realise it's important ...but being able to hold it in this space where it doesn't consume me.' Listen back to find out more, as well as her plans with her art practice too.

  • Letters 4 the Environment help locals with Draft Buffel Grass Plan survey 2026
    Feb 9 2026

Jacqueline Arnold and Adrian Tomlinson, co Administrators for LECA - Letters for the Environment Central Australia, spoke with 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson about ways listeners can participate in the Draft Buffel Grass Weed Management Plan Survey before time runs out by Thursday 12 February. With regular pop ups at the Todd Mall markets and at Yeperenye Shopping Centre, they have kept the community informed of aspects to the plan they may not be aware of, how it affects us all, and ways to be heard.

The Central Land Council - CLC have also weighed in with their assessment of what's proposed. “The draft plan, which was quietly released before Christmas for a short public comment period, allows pastoralists to keep importing and spreading buffel seeds."

Alice Springs Town Council ASTC is holding Have Your Say sessions on this Tuesday - your 15 minute slot must be booked beforehand on 08 8950 0500.

  • K8CCC Reviews Is This Thing On?
    Feb 5 2026

A collaboration between Alice Springs Cinema and 8CCC - Current/Coming soon Cinema CCC, begins. Kate Lyons-Dawson presents a weekly film review on Brekky each Thursday.

First one now showing! Is this Thing On?

Directed by Bradley Cooper and based on true events, the sceenplay was written by Cooper, Mark Chappell and Will Arnett, who also plays the leading man.

Extreme close-up shots clue us in to where the film might be going – and we’re watching, almost in free fall, the unfolding of a marriage breakdown, with Laura Dern, well-cast as the other half. This is based on a true story of a British stand up comedian and it starts out in familiar territory, until a stolen cookie quietly alters the direction and our assumptions.

There’s some clever exposition of the generation above and below this troubled 40-something couple, in ways that many audience members will relate to, especially well-meaning elderly parents. The kids and dogs do a gentle job as useful props and light relief to the ongoing drama. The tension remains quite tight throughout so that the audience is never quite sure what way it will turn.

NY stars with both its suburbs and its live comedy scene, as well as a side trip to the Hamptons and the camera follows the constant action. There’s just enough humour and celebration to balance the sad themes. The James Newberry score never overwhelms and knits it all together, peaking with the apt track by Bowie & Queen - Under Pressure.
