Commonly translated as “God Almighty,” El Shaddai has long shaped religious belief around an all powerful, transcendent deity. However, when the original Hebrew roots and ancient Near Eastern context are examined without theological filters, a very different picture begins to emerge.

Drawing on Mauro Biglino’s work as a Vatican approved biblical translator and Paul Wallis’s background as a senior churchman and scholar of ancient myth, this conversation challenges the accuracy of traditional translations. Together, they explore how El Shaddai may not refer to an omnipotent god at all, but instead to a powerful regional entity, one among many “elohim” associated with specific territories and peoples.
