Techworks Talks Podcast: Bridging the Gap Between Military Service and Field Service Careers

The field service industry is facing a skilled labor shortage. But according to Edward Krzysik, founder of the nonprofit Veterans in Field Service, the challenge may be less about a lack of talent and more about a failure to connect highly qualified candidates with the right opportunities. In this episode of Techworks Talks, Edward joins our host to discuss how military veterans and transitioning service members bring valuable technical skills, discipline, leadership, and problem-solving abilities to field service organizations. He also shares how Veterans in Field Service is helping bridge the gap between military experience and civilian careers through hiring initiatives, mentorship, and outreach programs.

    In this episode, we cover:
    • What Veterans in Field Service is, who it serves, and why it was founded
    • The organization's three core pillars: hiring, mentoring, and outreach
    • Why veterans are uniquely positioned for success in field service roles
    • How veteran hires can accelerate time-to-competency and reduce onboarding costs
    • The role of programs like DoD SkillBridge in supporting military-to-civilian career transitions
    • Veteran success stories, including a Navy veteran's journey into field service leadership
    • How veterans can leverage their skills to launch and grow their own field service businesses
    • Ways companies, hiring managers, and industry leaders can support and partner with Veterans in Field Service
Whether you're a veteran exploring career opportunities, a field service leader seeking skilled talent, or simply interested in the connection between military service and the trades, this episode offers practical insights and actionable ways to get involved.
