Faith in the Face of Calamity

What happens to our faith when tragedy strikes? When we lose someone we love, experience devastating loss, or face circumstances we cannot understand, can we still trust God?

In this episode, we turn to the story of Job, a man who endured tremendous suffering and loss, to explore these difficult questions. We also consider recent comments from Billy Crystal about his own experiences with loss and how they have affected his trust in God.

Through Scripture, we'll examine what it means to trust God when life doesn't make sense, whether faith and grief can coexist, and how we can respond compassionately to those who are struggling. From Job's declaration, “The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD” (Job 1:21, KJV), to the powerful reminder that Jesus wept alongside those who mourned (John 11:35), we discover that the Bible does not ignore our pain or offer easy answers to every tragedy.

Join us as we consider how faith can endure in the face of calamity and why, even in our darkest moments, we can continue seeking God and placing our hope in Jesus Christ.

  • Don't Cut the Verse Too Short
    3 Oct 2026

What happens when we shorten what the Bible actually says?

In this episode, we look at three familiar biblical statements that are often repeated in a shortened form: the "tree of knowledge," "money is the root of all evil," and "God won't give you more than you can handle."

The problem isn't always that the shortened version is completely wrong. Sometimes, it's that important words have been left out — words that make the original statement more specific and precise.

We'll look at what happens when "the knowledge of good and evil" becomes simply "knowledge," when "the love of money" becomes "money," and when a statement about temptation becomes a general statement about everything we face in life.

Because sometimes the difference between what the Bible says and what we think it says is just a few words.

    Don't cut the verse short.

  • The Struggle Between Fear and Faith
    19 Sep 2026

The Struggle Between Fear and Faith

Fear and faith often collide in the moments when life feels uncertain. In this episode, we look at Abraham’s journey in Genesis 12 and the moment when his faith was tested by fear. Abraham had trusted God enough to leave everything familiar, yet when circumstances became difficult, fear began to influence his decisions.

What can Abraham’s story teach us about our own struggles with fear, control, uncertainty, and trust? We’ll explore what Scripture says about choosing faith when we don't know how things will turn out, and what it means to trust God even when fear is still present.

Faith doesn’t mean we never feel afraid. It means learning to trust God in the middle of our fear.
