Door in a Cornfield and a Dead Station That Spoke Back

A door was standing upright in a frozen cornfield forty feet off Aldgate Road at 4:47 a.m. on March 15, 2012, its brass knob catching a snowplow's headlights with no tracks in the mud around it. At nearly the same hour a silent radio frequency carried a calm voice from a station that had been off the air for nine years-what linked the door and the dead station?

In this episode, we present the two unexplained events that were documented that night and follow the people who encountered them: a snowplow driver who photographed the door and a morning engineer who recorded a voice on a supposedly silent frequency-can the recordings and photographs tell us why these things happened?

    Person: Gina Fitzgerald
    Person: Paul Campbell
    Date: March 15, 2012
Location: Aldgate, County Road Seven and Aldgate Road
    Station: WFNK 91.3 FM

    - The radio frequency carried a voice on 91.3 FM, a station that had been dead for nine years.
    - Paul Campbell recorded roughly ninety seconds of the anomalous radio signal on a cassette recorder.
    - Wind gusts reached thirty-eight miles per hour the evening of March 14, 2012, according to the county weather service.

  • The Wallet That Traveled 211 Miles - Left on a Locked Corridor

The Wallet That Traveled 211 Miles - Left on a Locked Corridor
    15 Oct 2026
The Wallet That Traveled 211 Miles - Left on a Locked Corridor

Cold footprints, a locked gate, and a wallet reported stolen fourteen months earlier 211 miles away - forty-three dollars still inside and a folded scrap with six handwritten digits buried behind a health insurance card. How did a brown leather bifold appear inside a locked four-foot service corridor with no sign of forced entry, and what do the restitched seams and that folded number mean?

In this episode, we tell the sequence of events from the theft report in Evansville to the discovery at the Caldwell Flats rest stop and the later forensic observations that deepened the mystery. What unanswered detail connects a steady, predictable life in Evansville to a wallet found in a locked corridor on Interstate 74?

    Person: Donald A. Becker
Location: Caldwell Flats rest stop, Interstate 74
    Distance: 211 miles
Date found: February 11 (frozen February morning)
    Reporter/Investigator: Vogel

    - The wallet was reported stolen fourteen months before it was found.
    - Duane Baker found the wallet balanced on its spine against a junction box inside a locked four-foot service corridor.
    - The interior of the wallet was completely dry and contained forty-three dollars in cash.
    - The wallet held a health insurance card with a folded square of paper bearing six handwritten digits.
    - The wallet's interior card sleeve had been restitched with dark brown thread, unlike the original pale tan thread.

  • The Night a Child's Shoe Met a Voice Under the Floor

The Night a Child's Shoe Met a Voice Under the Floor
    14 Oct 2026
The Night a Child's Shoe Met a Voice Under the Floor

A single red canvas sneaker, size four, was found upright and tied in the westbound lane on Harlow Road at 6:15 a.m. on January 9, 2011, while a low, fluctuating tonal sound like a child's voice came up through the mudroom floor of the nearby farmhouse on the same cold nights-what connected the shoe, the sound, and the pattern of freezing temperatures?

In this episode, we tell the account recorded by the homeowner's notebook and local interviews, following the nights the noise appeared and the people who noticed the shoe on the road, asking how a rational explanation arrived too late to help the man living through it.

    Person: Terry Davis
    Date: January 9, 2011
Location: Harlow Road farmhouse, southeastern Indiana
Temperature: 22 degrees Fahrenheit (shoe found); pattern below 18°F for all nights with noise
Witness: Donna Taylor (runner who found the shoe)

    - The shoe was a single red canvas sneaker, size four, laces tied, found upright in the westbound lane at 6:15 a.m.
    - The homeowner, Terry Davis, logged 19 nights marked with a check in his spiral notebook corresponding to nights he was kept awake by the sound.
    - Every night the sound occurred had a recorded temperature below 18 degrees Fahrenheit; nights without the sound were above that threshold.
    - The tonal, fluctuating hum was first heard the first week of December 2010 and recurred into January 2011 beneath the mudroom floor.
    - Pest control technician Pete Ingram inspected crawlspace, attic, and wall cavities, found mice and normal winter evidence, but no source for a sustained tonal sound.
