    • Pittsburgh Penguins Win Their 1st Stanley Cup
      Apr 4 2023
In the 1970's, Pittsburgh was known as the "City of Champions" with the Steelers, Pirates, and University of Pittsburgh winning titles throughout the decade. The Penguins, however, had minimal success during those years. All of that would change in 1984 when they drafted Mario Lemieux. The 6'4" center from Montreal was phenomenal his first few years in the NHL, but he needed a strong supporting cast to make Pittsburgh a contender. Enter 5 time Stanley Cup winning coach Scotty Bowman, the Penguins drafted a prodigy in Jaromir Jagr, acquired a Czech-mate for the right winger, and made a blockbuster trade with the Hartford Whalers. Along with an upbeat player's coach in "Badger" Bob Johnson, the 1990-91 season would be the year it finally came together for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Questions, Comments, Concerns? • Why MJ, Bo, and The Great One couldn't compete with Saturday Morning Cartoons
      Mar 22 2023
If you were to create a cartoon with the biggest sports stars on the planet, who would it be? In 1991, a short lived animated series called ProStars featured the 3 greatest athletes in the world: Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, and Wayne Gretzky. Every Saturday morning, The ProStars teamed together to help kids all over the globe, from The Australian Outback to the Amazon Rainforest. Among these adventures, these superheroes take on wacky villains with high-tech sports gadgets, and even rescue the Stanley Cup! Was this a good cartoon? Depends on who you ask, but we breakdown all of the cartoon hijinks and reminisce about some things of the time. We also create our own ProStars for 2023 in our usual segment, The Top 5. • The Unexpected Emergence of John Daly
      Mar 8 2023

It’s our 18th episode and it's only fitting that we’re talkin’ golf! In this episode we’re chronicling the career of John Daly, one of the most colorful characters in the history of the sport. We discuss what makes the Diet Coke drinkin', cigarette-smokin', Loudmouth wearin' golfer such a beloved figure in the game.

From humble beginnings in Dardanelle, Arkansas, John Daly had a natural talent for the game.  When he burst on to the scene in 1991, he resonated with regular working class people almost overnight.

Driving the ball longer than anyone else at the time, John attracted a new demographic to the sport that had never been seen before. His "Grip it and Rip it" attitude would make him a fan favorite but his antics both on and off the course would lead to a turbulent career throughout the decade.

We're covering the highs and the lows, as well as his experience playing against a scrawny kid with a funny first name. We also discuss his music career and why he is forever indebted to Arnold Palmer.

In honor of The Players Championship this week, we're teeing up our favorite golf tournaments in our usual segment of The Top 5! Hit It Hard!
