À propos de ce contenu audio

Sports Will Save Us All is a weekly sports podcast where sports are just the beginning. Rooted in host Sasha Graham's genuine curiosity about people and what makes them tick, Sports Will Save Us All is known for conversations that go beyond the expected. Sasha's tireless research allows her to surprise guests with questions they've never been asked, uncover stories listeners haven't heard before, and create space for honesty, laughter, and insight. The result is a sports podcast that feels intimate, surprising, and deeply relatable. Sports Will Save Us All is a deeply human sports podcast that explores the stories that live beneath the highlights—what drives people, what shapes them, and what connects us all. Through thoughtful, well-researched conversations with athletes, coaches, and change-makers, Sasha digs into family, friendship, identity, pain, humor, adversity, and the choices that define who we become—whether we're competing at the highest level or watching from the couch. From women in sports and the rise of girls' athletics, to adaptive and disability sports, mental health, addiction, resilience, leadership, and life after competition, the show explores how sports shape us—on and off the field. These are stories of perseverance and vulnerability, of failure and growth, of community and connection. Whether you love sports, are curious about human potential, or simply enjoy great storytelling, this podcast is for you. ABOUT

  • When the Game Ends, What Do We Carry Forward? | Steve Hare
    May 12 2026

This week on Sports Will Save Us All, Sasha sits down with longtime sportswriter and first-time novelist Steve Hare for a conversation about high school sports, community, loss, and the stories that stay with us long after the final whistle.

As the founder of Ohio Varsity, Steve has spent nearly three decades covering high school athletics across Northeast Ohio. From football fields to wrestling mats to girls flag football sidelines, he has witnessed the evolution of youth sports firsthand — and what he's learned has very little to do with championships.

The conversation also dives into Steve's debut novel, The Turkey Bowl: What We Carried Forward — a thoughtful, emotionally layered story about friendship, grief, memory, and the invisible ways sports shape our lives. What begins as an annual pickup football game becomes something much deeper: a meditation on loss, healing, and the relationships we carry forward.

Steve opens up about writing through cancer treatment, the personal experiences woven into the novel, and why he intentionally leaves space for readers to bring their own stories into the book.

This episode is ultimately about the people behind the games — the teammates, parents, coaches, spectators, and friends who become part of the fabric of our lives.

You can find The Turkey Bowl: What We Carried Forward on Amazon or through the Books on the Show tab at Sports Will Save Us All.
