    • HoM: Star Trek Podcast - "Chain of Command" (TNG) Review & More
      Oct 26 2025

Series 7, Episode 10 - "I don't know how I got here. I was at a seminar in Santa Barbara, the next thing you know I'm crawling around in cat shit!"

Welcome back aboard, gallant podcast listeners, for this finale epilogue episode of the seventh series of Hit or Miss: Star Trek. Throughout this run, we’ve explored some of the best Bajoran and Cardassian-focused stories — and we couldn’t conclude any other way than with the definitive Cardassian tale: the Star Trek: The Next Generation two-parter “Chain of Command.” Captain Mike returns to the bridge, joined by resident Sci-Fi Queen and shift rotation regular Nita, and we’re delighted to welcome back Rick Everson after far too long away from the podcast. We open with a brief intro and the last Hit or Miss section of this season, taking in episodes of TNG and DS9, the original "Space Karen" and a briefly glimpsed ship from Strange New Worlds. The bulk of the podcast comes next, and is a deep dive into the focus episode. Expect spirited discussion about the fine lines between different command styles and bad leadership, questions over whether Picard was truly the only man who could navigate styrofoam rock, and — of course — intense talk about the incredible but deeply uncomfortable torture scenes (which some listeners may find distressing). From real-world allegory to Star Trek’s long-standing social conscience, we dig into what makes this two-parter so powerful — alongside plenty of well-earned praise for its outstanding writing and acting. To wrap things up, we share your audience thoughts and critical reflections on why “Chain of Command” remains one of Trek’s most revered episodes. Our final scores won’t surprise anyone — but let’s just say, we could be heading to maximum warp. So get comfortable, grab something more appetising than a taspar egg, and join us as we break down two of Star Trek’s finest hours.

NB: Apologies for the slight audio issues on part of this episode. Every effort has been made to make the disruption as minimal as possible.
