    • A Conversation with Mallory B.E. Baches
      Apr 30 2024

A conversation about New Urbansim with President of the Congresss for the New Urbanism, Mallory B.E. Baches. Mallory is an urban designer with over twenty years of experience working at the intersection of urban planning and community development. She began her career with Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, leading firm in new urbanist design, development and implementation practices.

In this convesation we discuss many topics including the 60th IMCL (International Making Citiies Livable) and the upcoming Congress that will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This historic river city where its urban core was rebuilt harnessing its own diversity to overcome adversity. Where new entrepreneurs hone their craft in new ways and old, where the south and north convene, where pigs fly.

Home to Over-the-Rhine, one of the largest, most intact urban historic districts in the country, Cincinnati is where history meets the future. This birthplace of American industry is now the logistics capital of the Midwest and the headquarters of six fortune 500 companies. Once the leading beer-producing city in the 1800s, they are now reviving that legacy with unique neighborhood breweries throughout the region.

Made up of distinct neighborhoods, Cincinnati and its surrounding region is a mosaic of unique communities and places, from the city's seven hills to its river cities and beyond. From thriving Mainstrasse in Covington to a redeveloping College Hill, and industrious Camp Washington to name a few, Cincinnati is the crossroads of rivers, commerce, and culture. CNU 32 in Cincinnati will be a celebration of great places, regional diversity, and the deep history of opportunity in the Queen City of the West.

The Seaside Instiute is a supporting partner of CNU and we look forward to discovering and re-envisoniong this city with the many great minds in Urban Planning.
