We disappeared for a bit, and the reason is refreshingly normal: life got busy. Between practices, workouts, travel, and being tired at the wrong time of day, recording a weekly show turns into a logistical puzzle. So we hit record again, laugh about having zero snacks, and use the catch-up as a way to reset the tone for the season.
The big story is Esteban’s school switch and what it means for basketball development and real life. He talks through the jump from a tiny prep environment to a much larger Catholic school, and how that changes everything from hallway energy to making friends at a new pace. We also get into what’s happening on the court with a new coaching staff, including a strong emphasis on defense, discipline, and doing the little things that actually win games.
Then we go deeper on basketball defense: what matters physically, what matters mentally, and how elite defenders separate themselves with timing, anticipation, and body control. Kawhi Leonard comes up as the gold standard for smart, skilled defense, plus a few other names that represent grit and grind. And yes, we also tell the cafeteria story where a bench breaks in front of everyone, because sometimes the most useful lesson is how you recover when you want to disappear.
If you’re navigating a new school year, a new team, or a fresh start, this one lands on a simple intention we’re keeping close: block out the noise. Subscribe, share this with a parent or player who needs it, and leave us a review with your own motto for the year.
Have a question for us to ask each other? We’d love to hear it!
