  • Episode 26 | Start With The Problem, Not The Plan
    Oct 8 2026

Do you have a goal but feel overwhelmed because you don'tknow where to start? In this episode of Reinventing Life After 40, we're taking a step back and looking at the problem before jumping into the plan.

Getting clear about what you actually want to change can make your next steps much easier to see.

When you're feeling stuck in your career, relationships, routines, or personal life, it's tempting to immediately search for the solution. But a vague problem often leads to a complicated plan—and plenty of overthinking.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why vague goals make it difficult to take action
    • How to separate the problem you're experiencing from the solution you think you need
    • How to identify what you actually want to be different
    • Why defining a smaller outcome can make change feel more managable
    • A simple three-question exercise to help you find your next useful step

Whether you're considering a career change, starting a business, pursuing a creative goal, or simply trying to figure out what's next after 40, this episode will help you stop jumping straight into planning and start by getting clear about the change you're actually seeking.

✨ Before you make the plan, make sure you're solving the right problem.

    💡 Main Points

    1. Get clear on the problem before creating a plan.
    2. Don't confuse a possible solution with the actual thing you need.
    3. Define a small, useful outcome.
    4. Take one action that gives you more information.

    ✍️ Homework

    Answer these three questions:

    1. What isn't working right now?

    2. What do I actually want to be different?

    3. What is one thing I could do this week to learn moreabout that?

    That's your assignment.

    And importantly:

Don't make the full plan. Just answer the three questions.

    💭 Reflection Question

Am I trying to solve a problem—or am I rushing to a solution before I understand what I actually need?

    ✝️ Proverbs 21:5

The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.

    ✝️ Proverbs 15:22

    Without counsel, plans go awry,

But in the multitude of counselors they are established.

    ✝️ Luke 14:28-30

28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it--

29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,

30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.'

    Happy October! 🍂 🎃

I don't have a regular episode this week, so I just wanted to post an update.

During Bible study, I came across a verse that has stuck with me over the past week or so. It made me reconsider my struggles and setbacks. Maybe they're not indicators that I'm failing or need to change course (again!). Maybe they're indicators that God is pruning me -- cutting me back so I can grow fuller and bear more fruit.

I hope you find this mini-sode useful. Come join me in the Facebook group and let me know what you're up to!

I'm hoping to have regular episodes posted again starting next week, maybe the following.

Thank you for listening, subscribing, commenting, following -- all that you do!

    Talk to you soon!

    ✝️John 15:2

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

  • Coaching Corner #3 | I Should Be Happy With My Life...So Why Am I Not?
    Sep 24 2026

✨ You don't have to reject the life you've built to make room for the person you're becoming.

What if your life looks good on paper, but you still feel restless, unfulfilled, or ready for something different?

In this episode of Coaching Corner on Reinventing Life After 40, I work through a fictional coaching conversation with a woman who feels guilty because she wants more—even though she has a life she's grateful for.

Together, we explore the hidden "shoulds" that can keep women stuck in midlife and uncover the difference between being unhappy with your life and recognizing that you've grown into a new season.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why gratitude and the desire for change can coexist
    • How "should" thinking can create guilt and self-doubt
    • Why feeling restless doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong
    • How to uncover what you actually want beneath vague dissatisfacton
    • How a coaching conversation can turn confusion into a small, practical next step

Whether you're considering a career change, pursuing a creative dream, or simply wondering what's next after 40, this episode will help you see that wanting something different doesn't mean you're ungrateful for what you already have.

    💡 Main Points

    1. You can be grateful and still want change.
    2. Restlessness isn't necessarily a problem to eliminate.
    3. Something changing isn't about escaping your life—it's about responding to who you're becoming.
    4. You don't need to solve everything. You can explore.

    ✍️ Homework

    Ask yourself:

What do I think I "should" be feeling right now?

    Then:

    What am I actually feeling?

    And finally:

What might that feeling be telling me I need?

Don't try to solve it yet.

    Get curious.

    💭 Reflection Question

What if wanting something different isn't evidence that something is wrong?

    ✝️ Matthew 6:32-34

32 … your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

    ✝️ Deut 8:18

And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth…

    ✝️ Prov 10:22

The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

    ✝️ Prov 28:25

He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife,

But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.

    ✝️ Psa 1:3

He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
