Melissa and Jared discuss the concept of the predator. When we are small we make deals to keep ourselves safe. As we grow up the predator feeds on the energy of those promises when they don't work in the current context. We have to use our adult self to identify and break those old promises and make new agreements that fit our current context. Jared and Melissa share personal examples.

Melissa and Jared talk about the polarity between the masculine archetype and the feminine archetype. Compares to the Jungian concept of the Anima and Animus. We must wake up to the one end of the polarity that is operating within us, or we can’t see the other end of the polarity. Healthy development of both is discussed.

Melissa and Jared speak to the body and how the society socializes us to be disembodied. We look at the body as something to be ignored or shaped to fit a certain image that really makes the body an enemy. How we learn to listen to what the body has to say is discussed and several examples given. Authenticity without embodiment is performance. The body can hold what arises. The body is where we go to interrupt the ego interpretation or story.

  • The Vessel

The Vessel. Pulling from the concepts of alchemy as identified by Carl Jung. When experiences happen, when those images come from soul we need to create a container that we can hold these experiences in. Like a beaker in a chemistry experience, there are three qualities this container, this vessel, must have: 1) Clarity-awakening to what is going on. Putting a name to the experience that is arising. It will be hard to get clarity if we are hiding. 2) Strength-Being in a place where we can hold on to the experience and approach it with curiosity. The heat of continually checking in with it. 3) Restraint-Holding on to the experience, not being so quick to dismiss it or move on to the next thing, some experiences may take 6+ years to uncover themselves and also not being so quick to share the experience.

One way to enhance vesseling is by making and keeping the appointment with self. Some sort of spiritual practice that can be done every day and then we keep that appointment every day. Various options of appointments are explored.

  • The Call

Melissa and Jared explore the call. The soul speaks to us using images, imagination, and dreams. If we pay attention to the images that arise in our consciousness, we will start to gain a deeper understanding of what the soul is trying to say to us. "How we are with the image, affects how freely the images feels to show itself."--Frances Weller. We have to slow down and sit with the images to understand what the image is trying to tell us. Sometimes we have to hold on to the images for a long time before they speak to us. We need to make and keep an appointment with soul.

Melissa and Jared cover the topic of "The Wound." There is a discussion about approaching the wound, verses managing the symptoms that are uncomfortable. With enough experience the Soul acquires a wound that is meant to awaken us. The wound does not need a origin story. Some personal examples are shared. "We want to not fix what is broken, but to have what is broken blessed." The soul is unattached to the stories we tell ourselves. When we can identify the call of the wound, we can use that to get to know the Soul.

Jared and Melissa talk about another line of defense that can keep us asleep and that is the story we tell about ourselves. The energy around the "should" may allow us to see lives and stories in a new way, and because we are the narrators of our story we can tell the story in a different way. The suggestion of living life as an improvisational actor rather then an actor in a play with a well worn script. Stories come out in our Enneagram types. An outside person who asks us to question our story can cause us to start to look at our stories in a new way. "Unfold your own myth."
