Reality & Revelation with Rick Peterson brings the conversations usually reserved for barbershops, beauty salons, basketball courts, and behind closed doors into the open.

With a passion for education, learning, and asking the “why” behind the “what,” Rick explores the real issues shaping our families, careers, communities, finances, mental health, spirituality, and everyday lives. Some conversations will make you laugh. Others may challenge, anger, inspire, or move you but none will avoid the truth.

Each episode begins with the reality of what is happening, why it matters, and whom it affects. Then, the conversation moves toward revelation: what we can learn, what we can do, and how we can create meaningful change in our own lives and the lives of those around us.

Pull up a chair and join the conversation because real change begins when we are willing to talk about what others avoid.

  • We Can Reduce School Gun Violence Without Taking Guns Away
    27 Oct 2026

School gun violence keeps returning like a nightmare the country refuses to wake up from, and we’re tired of pretending a hashtag counts as a plan. We sit down at the table and talk plainly about what’s happening, why it keeps happening, and what real prevention can look like when we stop treating this like a team sport. I’m a firearm owner and I believe in the Second Amendment, but I also believe adults are failing kids when we ignore common-sense gun safety and easy access to deadly weapons.

We ground the conversation in facts and clearly named sources, then walk through the Bend, Oregon tragedy to show how quickly a “secured” building can be breached and how long the trauma lingers for children, educators, and the wider community. We also unpack the patterns that show up in the data: age ranges, gender, and education trends, not to scapegoat anyone, but to spotlight where earlier guardrails and better judgment could have interrupted the path to violence.

From there, we move into solutions that don’t require “taking everybody’s guns away”: secure storage at home, clearer adult accountability, smarter background checks that catch more than a clean record, waiting periods that reduce impulsive harm, and better red flags when purchasing behavior suddenly escalates. We also talk about what everyday people can do right now, from working with local leaders and law enforcement to organizing support that goes beyond thoughts and prayers, including how the church can show up for victims in concrete ways.

If you want a serious, human conversation about school safety, responsible gun ownership, and practical steps to reduce mass shootings, pull up a seat and listen. Subscribe, share this with someone who cares about protecting kids, and leave a review with the one change you think would save the most lives.

  • Protect Our Kids
    14 Oct 2026

A headline can fade in 24 hours, but the trauma from sexual assault can follow someone for years. We sit with a hard reality: our kids and young adults are being harmed in the very places that should be safest, including college campuses, middle and high schools, churches, and even their own homes. And too often, the adults in the room fail them, whether through denial, fear, reputation management, or plain silence.

We break down the scale of campus sexual assault and why underreporting keeps predators protected. We also talk about how abuse hides behind power, access, and “trusted” roles, and why bystanders and institutions can’t excuse themselves with “I didn’t participate” when they also didn’t stop it or report it. Then we name what doesn’t get enough airtime: the mental health impact of sexual violence, from nightmares and isolation to broken relationships and the feeling of never being safe in your own skin.

The takeaway is not vague inspiration, it’s action. We lay out a community approach to sexual assault prevention and survivor support: start local, talk to leaders, demand policies that protect students, support advocacy groups, and create safe spaces where people can speak without shame or retaliation. If you care about child safety, trauma-informed support, and real accountability, listen through and then share it with someone who needs a push to stop looking away. Subscribe, share, and leave a review with one concrete step you’ll take this week.

  • AI Fear And What You Can Control
    29 Sep 2026

AI is moving so fast that even calm people are starting to feel jumpy and I get it. One day it’s a new tool for answers, and the next day the headlines sound like a warning siren about the grid, the banks, privacy, and what happens when machines outpace the humans who built them. So we slow the whole conversation down and start with something most people skip: the real history of artificial intelligence, from Alan Turing and early research through Deep Blue, Watson, and today’s generative AI and large language models.

Then we talk about why AI feels personal. It’s not just “tech news” when your phone, apps, smart TV, and social platforms are powered by algorithms that learn your habits. If you’ve ever mentioned something out loud and suddenly seen it show up in your feed, you’ve felt the uneasy side of AI, data privacy, and always-on tracking. We also address why so many leaders are demanding AI regulation and guardrails, and why fear alone won’t help you make better decisions.

From there, I bring it back to what you and I can actually control: our minds, our focus, and our anxiety. I share a faith-forward perspective that God is in control, plus practical anxiety tools that apply even if you’re not religious, including support systems and cognitive behavioral therapy principles. If this conversation hits home, subscribe, share it with someone who’s spiraling, and leave a review with your biggest question about AI and the future.
