Rare Medium with Deb Snyder: Psychic Medium Susanna Massari on Mediumship, her E.T. Origins and work as a Death Doula

"I'm a very healthy skeptic, especially in this field. I question everything.”

It's not the opening you might expect from a psychic medium, and that's what makes Susanna Massari such a compelling guest. She is a certified end-of-life doula, a podcast host and the author of Living Beyond Death. Her search has taken her to study with shamans in Peru and in Tuva, on the border of Mongolia. In this conversation with host Deb Snyder, she shares her story with honesty, humor and a refreshing lack of "flowery" language.

Susanna's story begins at about nine years old in Miami. She was looking out the window of a house built on stilts when she saw a huge ball of light glide silently over the treetops. Years of vivid dreams and visits from relatives who had passed followed. Susanna discusses her E.T. origins and her belief many are from “somewhere else.”

Susanna also explains how a reading works for her. She stays open to whatever Spirit wants to share, whether that's a feeling, a vision or a physical sensation. "It's not my reading, it's theirs," she says. If you're feeling called to develop your own abilities, Susanna and Deb offer encouragement. Take classes, read, visit the library, learn free online.

The conversation then turns to the end of life. Susanna offers a calm view on the death, as she sees it as moving from one room to another; a change of dimension. As an end-of-life doula, she explains what that work involves, what a shared death experience is, and why she finds sitting with the dying so beautiful. In this engaging interview, Susanna offers a piece of advice for all of us: "Question everything."

Stay to the end for a bonus Halloween story from Kelley Simpson about her grandfather, Pepe, a visit in the night, and a feeling that never quite went away.

Susanna Massari Susanna is a psychic medium, certified end-of-life doula, a podcast host and the author of the book Living Beyond Death. A respected metaphysical teacher, she encourages people to explore consciousness, life after death, and humanity’s place in a much larger universe with curiosity, compassion, discernment and an open mind. Her experiences, combined with decades of firsthand work as a medium, have given her a profound understanding of the interconnected nature of life, death, and consciousness.

  • The Grandfather of Channeling with Tom Massari
    22 Oct 2026

What if the biggest breakthrough in your life came from getting out of your own way? Tom Massari, often called the grandfather of channeling, shares the astonishing story of how channeling entered his life, how he learned to trust the process, and why Abram — the presence he has worked with for more than 53 years — still has something urgent to say about consciousness, fear, and reality. Deb Snyder sits down with Tom Massari for a rare, candid conversation that moves from his first unexplained experiences in the 1970s to the hard-earned discipline of becoming a true medium. Tom breaks down what channeling actually is, who he believes can do it, and the techniques he uses to quiet the mind, release emotion, and step aside so information can come through clearly.

You'll discover: the wild moment that first convinced Tom he wasn't imagining things, why a past-life connection with John Rolfs helped validate his experience, and how a skeptical doctor finally gave him confidence in Abram's guidance. Tom also shares the difference between authentic service and spiritual performance, why he believes too many voices can muddy the work, and how channeling can be healing for the channel as well as the person receiving the message. Then Abram speaks directly, offering a sweeping view of reincarnation, death, timelines, and the nature of consciousness itself. He challenges fear-based living, explains why reality is something you actively design, and delivers a blunt wake-up call about control, judgment, and the power of choosing your own path.

Tom and Abram also speak directly to the chaos of the modern world, offering a message that is both grounding and provocative: stop trying to live by someone else's rules, stop waiting for a better life to happen, and start imagining the reality you want now. This is essential listening if you're drawn to spirituality, mediumship, metaphysics, or simply want a different way to think about fear, purpose, and personal responsibility.

Tom Massari, often called the “Grandfather of Channeling” is an internationally known channel with over 53 years of experience. He is an author, teacher and celebrated mentor. Tom has led thousands of private and public sessions, workshops, seminars, and classes in the United States and internationally. Through Abram Channeling, he invites audiences to explore intuition, self-awareness, spiritual development, personal responsibility, and the deeper architecture of reality.

  • The Awakened Witch with Ivy West
    8 Oct 2026

The patriarchy does not just shape behavior - it burns women out, silences their voice, and keeps them from their own power. Ivy West shares how escaping a high-control religious cult, rebuilding her life, and embracing witchcraft became the path to purpose, healing, and true freedom.

Host Deb Snyder sits down with Ivy - author, certified life coach, and founder of The Awakened Witch - for a conversation that starts with identity and goes all the way to survival. Ivy explains what an "awakened witch" really means, why she believes women have been conditioned to stay asleep to their power, and how one surprising online mom group opened her eyes to the possibility of a different life.

You'll hear the story of how Ivy spent 34 years inside a cult, how a friend helped her learn to think for herself, and why a single layover mirror moment became the turning point that changed everything. She also shares what it was like to leave with her husband and children, how both of them deconstructed the system together, and why their marriage looks stronger now than it ever could inside the roles they were assigned.

We break down the deeper ideas behind her book Moon Magic and her work with women through The Alchemy: how to recognize your gifts, alchemize trauma into purpose, and stop living in the constant hustle that leads to exhaustion. Ivy makes a compelling case for cyclical living, moon phases, ritual, rest, and reclaiming the sacred in everyday life - especially for women who feel like they are always giving and never arriving.

This conversation is about more than one extraordinary escape story. It is for anyone who feels trapped by expectations, disconnected from their body, or tired of living by rules that were never designed for them. If you need a reminder that your story can become your strength - and that healing can also be rebellion - this episode will stay with you.

Ivy West is an author, certified life coach and the founder of The Awakened Witch. Using a framework that blends structured planning with feminine wisdom and witchcraft, she helps women get unshakably clear on their life purpose and gives them the tools to confidently step into their new identity.

Ivy escaped a high-control religious community in her early thirties and rebuilt her life from the ground up. Ivy found a path beyond what the patriarchy had taught her to accept. Her program, The Alchemy, walks women through understanding their gifts, claiming who they are and what they want, and alchemizing their past into purpose.

  • Beacon of Strength: Thriving with Breast Cancer with Kristin LaPlante
    1 Oct 2026

Breast cancer doesn’t always announce itself with a lump. Sometimes the signs are less obvious: persistent pain, a change that doesn’t feel right, or an inner nudge to ask for another test. In this Breast Cancer Awareness Month conversation, Rare Medium host Deb Snyder and her longtime friend Kristin LaPlante share their personal experiences with breast cancer—and why listening to your body and speaking up for yourself matter.

Kristin was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. Years later, what she thought might be sciatica became a far more serious concern. After months of pain and difficulty walking, an X-ray revealed that her cancer had returned and spread to her bones. Kristin describes the uncertainty of waiting for answers, the moment she learned the diagnosis, and the determination that helped her move forward with treatment.

A former gymnast and lifelong athlete, Kristin shares how she worked her way from needing a cane to walking several miles. She talks about the role of radiation, medication, exercise, nutrition, and mental imagery in her journey, and how she found purpose in supporting others through breast cancer advocacy and Maine’s Runway for Hope.

Deb also opens up about her own diagnosis after an abnormal 3D mammogram. When a biopsy was presented as something she could wait on, she chose to push for it—and shares how that decision led to her diagnosis and treatment.

Together, Deb and Kristin reflect on their family histories, the challenges of navigating medical care, and how a diagnosis can reshape priorities, relationships, and the way you value your own health. In this episode, they discuss:

    • What it can mean to trust your instincts and ask for further evaluation, including the importance of recommended screening and follow-up with your healthcare team
    • Kristin’s path through breast cancer treatment, recovery, and living with stable disease
    • The strength they found in athletic discipline, family, friendship, and community
    • Why advocacy includes making time for your health—even when life is busy or fear makes it tempting to wait

Honest and heartfelt, this conversation is about more than awareness: it’s about paying attention, finding support, and having the courage to keep asking questions.

Kristin LaPlante is a breast cancer survivor and advocate. After an initial diagnosis in 2012, she faced a metastatic recurrence years later, which spread to her bones. She shares her experience to encourage others to listen to their bodies, advocate for the care and testing they need, and find support through difficult seasons. An athlete throughout her life, Kristin credits movement, mental strength, and the support of her community as meaningful parts of her journey. She participates in Maine’s Runway for Hope and Warrior Chics at runway events in Arizona. Her goal is to help create a powerful community, raise awareness and increase the circle of support for breast cancer patients and research. Kristin is a sales and service professional who lives and works in New England. She is incredibly grateful for her family and friends who have supported her and contributed to her strength along her journey. • Strength in the Scars with Vincent Van den Broeck
    10 Sep 2026

A near-fatal scooter crash leaves Vincent Van den Broeck with multiple fractures, major brain trauma, and a 10 percent survival chance - but the real story is what he does next. If you need proof that resilience is a practice, not a personality trait, this conversation will stay with you long after it ends.

Deb Snyder sits down with Brussels-based entrepreneur, restaurateur, and author Vincent Van den Broeck live from his restaurant for a raw look at recovery, ownership, and rebuilding a life after catastrophe. Vincent opens up about the night of the accident, the weeks in a coma, the brutal rehab that followed, and the moment he refused to let doctors, labels, or fear define what came next.

You’ll hear Vincent and Deb unpack:

    • Why “toxic positivity” became a surprising accusation during rehab
    • How taking full ownership of your journey changes everything
    • The difference between surviving and truly becoming
    • Why gratitude for small things like walking home or opening a water bottle can be life-altering
    • The role of family, friends, prayer, and community in his recovery
    • How his book, Everything Feels Impossible Until It’s Done, turned private pain into a shared victory

Vincent also shares the philosophy behind his “manual” for living, including the power of making every goodbye count, protecting time with the people you love, and choosing authenticity over autopilot. It’s a conversation about energy, purpose, second chances, and the quiet habits that make life feel more precious after almost losing it.Essential listening if you’re rebuilding, rethinking your priorities, or looking for a reminder that even the hardest chapter can become the one that saves you.

Vincent Van den Broeck is a Brussels-based entrepreneur, restaurateur, and survivor of a near-fatal car accident that changed his life forever. On October 11th, 2024, he was struck whilst riding a scooter in a collision at 55 km/h in a 30 zone. The impact left him with multiple fractures and major brain trauma. Doctors gave little hope with most injuries of this severity having only a 10% survival rate. He spent weeks in a coma and three months in intensive rehabilitation, but recovery didn’t stop there — it became a daily mission. Against all odds, he not only regained his strength but came back stronger than before: working out 7 times a week, running a business, and building new creative projects. Today, Vincent shares his story as living proof that resilience, mindset, and community can make the impossible possible.

    Vincent is the author of:

EVERYTHING FEELS IMPOSSIBLE UNTIL IT’S DONE: How the life you build becomes the one that saves you
