Is there anything more stressful than an empty pipeline? If you're in sales or marketing, you already know the feeling—meetings on the calendar, real effort going in, and the pipeline still not moving. ‎ Host Joseph Lewin knows it too—the tightness in his chest at dinner, the brain that won't switch off on a weekend when the pipeline's dry. ‎ Some of your peers are filling pipeline and crushing quota right now. Not because they're smarter. Not because they're working harder. So what are they doing differently? ‎ That's Pipeline. ‎ Short conversations with the people actually doing it, not another B2B show full of backstory and theory with nothing to use on Monday. ‎ Each episode, Joseph talks to a peer about what's working for them right now, so you leave with something you can actually apply. ‎ If you're burnt out from the late nights with too little to show for them, this is your show. New episodes weekly on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever you listen.Copyright 2026 Podcast 2 Pipeline Economics Leadership Management & Leadership Marketing & Sales

  • Why We Call the Customer Who Orders a $50 Check Valve (with Gil Welsford) | Ep. 4
    21 Oct 2026

Someone buying a pneumatically actuated ball valve doesn't need it in their house, so ValveMan calls to ask what else they need.

Gil Welsford launched ValveMan to sell industrial valves online without ever having to talk to a customer. On this episode of Pipeline, Joseph Lewin talks with Gil Welsford, Founder and CEO at ValveMan, about why that changed. The website was bringing in one-off sales. In 2022, Gil and his brother started calling the customers who order on it and asking if they need anything else. The idea came from the relationship model behind the company his grandfather started in 1965, which his father kept. Even a $50 check valve order gets a call. Gil also explains how he built the new site with Claude as a self-described non-tech guy. He also explains why he wants AI to free up his team's time so they can talk with people.

What you can use by Monday:

Call the customers who place orders on your website and ask if they need anything else.

Call on small orders too: ValveMan calls the customer who places a $50 check valve order.

Write down your top five customers right now and call each one with nothing to sell, just to build the relationship.

When someone comes to mind, listen to the nudge and send the text or make the call instead of letting it go.

  • You'll Get Tired of Your Point of View Before Buyers Do (with John Rougeux from Flag & Frontier) | Ep. 3
    16 Oct 2026

A strong point of view never reaches the market until the executive team agrees on it.

On this episode of Pipeline, Joseph Lewin talks with John Rougeux, Founder at Flag & Frontier, about building a strategic narrative and what happens after the work is done. John compares the forgettable brand to the artwork on a hotel wall: it doesn't offend anybody, and it's completely unremarkable. His answer for what the work looks like in practice is structured debate among the executive team, since work done inside a marketing department or outsourced to a PR or comms group misses the point. He's also honest about results. A different point of view takes time for buyers to process, and your team will get tired of talking about it far sooner than buyers do. Pipeline is sponsored by Podcast 2 Pipeline.

What you can use by Monday:

Put the strategic narrative to your executive team as a structured debate instead of handing it to marketing or a PR group.

Have the team answer what you're trying to do that no one else is trying to do, and how you see things differently than competitors.

Keep talking about the problem, and not only your solution, well after your own team is bored of the message.

Before you start, ask what's preventing the business from going further or faster, because the narrative may not be the first thing to fix.

    Chapters:

    00:00 Why messaging drives pipeline

00:59 The painter analogy and hotel artwork

05:02 A fine art photographer and positioning

08:07 One story across the whole organization

11:02 Structured debate and patience with the market

  • The Mutual Action Plan as a Lie Detector (with Kaveh Pazooki from Surfe) | Ep. 2
    13 Oct 2026

The fastest way to find out whether a deal is real is to ask the prospect for homework.

Most mutual action plans get built because middle management wants one in place, which makes them a formality. On this episode of Pipeline, Joseph Lewin talks with Kaveh Pazooki, Founding Account Executive at Surfe, about running one as a lie detector instead. Kaveh has sold at Datadog, Rippling, and Salesforce, and he builds the plan with the prospect rather than presenting it at them. After a large demo where most people just nod along, he books five-minute one-on-ones with the end users and asks what’s working well enough with the incumbent to make them hesitate. That surfaces pain the original champion never had, and it’s what feeds the ROI analysis for the economic buyer at the end.

What you can use by Monday:

    • Take your top three active deals and check whether each one actually has a mutual action plan attached to it.
    • Look at whether the prospect has deliverables on that plan, not just you, and whether they’ve executed on them.
    • If the answer is no across the board, park the deal outside the quarter instead of forecasting it.
    • Bring those gaps to your forecast meeting and ask your manager to strategize on how to mitigate the risk.
    • After a group demo, book five-minute one-on-ones with the end users and keep doing discovery on what they like about their current tool.
