In this episode, Dr. Wing Lim talks with legendary emergency physician, Professor, and Order of Canada recipient Dr. Louis Francescutti for another episode of the Medical Entrepreneurship Series. They explore the realities of modern medicine, how AI is set to reshape emergency care, and the path from frustration to real, community-changing action. Dr. Francescutti is the founder and champion of the Bridge Healing initiative that offers transitional housing from emergency care to stable, supportive homes, and he draws from his own advocacy and innovation for the valuable advice he shares.

Dr. Francescutti shares practical advice for physicians who want to lead change, and he tells Dr. Lim that waiting for grants is not the only way. Fundraising is simpler than most physicians think due to the trust and influence physicians have in their communities. He offers real ideas on how to seek monetary support for innovative care ideas. Dr. Francescutti and Dr. Lim also discuss the emotional challenges facing physicians today: how burnout and moral injury are common. He focuses on grounding in gratitude, practicing emotional intelligence, and modeling positive culture for trainees. This episode inspires physicians on ways to lead community impact projects and make a real difference in their world.

      About Dr. Louis Francescutti:

An emergency and preventive medicine physician, a university professor, an international speaker, Past-President of the Canadian Medical Association, and Past-President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Francescutti has spent nearly three decades advocating one message: Live Smart. Reputed as one of Canada's leading medical visionaries and regarded internationally for his 'down to earth' and 'bold' methodologies, Lou is not intimidated by political correctness, nor is he afraid to tell it like it is. "People need to hear what the real issues are--no sugar coating. We live in a world that is far too complex and unforgiving. People need to learn that they are in control of their future and fortune--both in terms of health and happiness".

In this episode, Dr. Kevin Mailo welcomes radiologist, educator, and podcaster, Dr. Yatin Chadha, to the show to talk about Dr. Chadha’s newest project: Beyond Radiology. Beyond Radiology is an innovative radiology education platform designed for clinicians. Dr. Chadha explains why radiology education is essential for non-radiologists and how he built the online medical education platform from scratch. He and Dr. Mailo discuss why creative pursuits are necessary parts of a fulfilled life.

Dr. Chadha shares how his passion for teaching and personal growth led him to create the practical radiology courses, which include a CT head imaging course for emergency physicians and frontline doctors. Part of the conversation revolves around how he chose to navigate mid-career growth and avoid burnout through projects he believes in. He learned a lot of lessons from running the beyond MD podcast, lessons that helped inform his approach to Beyond Radiology. Dr. Mailo and Dr. Chadha unpack the importance of creativity in medicine, carving out meaningful work beyond clinical responsibilities, and avoiding mid-career plateaus. Clinicians seeking to sharpen radiology skills or curious about blending creativity with practice will find powerful insights in this conversation.

      About Dr. Yatin Chadha:

Dr. Yatin Chadha is a mid-career radiologist at North York General Hospital (NYGH) in Toronto and host of the well-known beyond MD podcast.

Dr. Chadha completed medical school at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, radiology residency at Queen’s University, and a musculoskeletal radiology fellowship in San Diego, California.

Within medicine, Dr. Chadha is most passionate about educating learners and colleagues in radiology. His clinical interests include emergency radiology, sports medicine, rheumatology, and pain therapy.

Since 2023, Dr. Chadha has been the director of radiology education at NYGH. He takes great joy in teaching and mentoring learners from medical school through fellowship. In 2024, Dr. Chadha received a teaching award for excellence in education.

As a believer in lifelong learning, Dr. Chadha launched the beyond MD podcast in 2020. The podcast focuses on financial literacy and wellness topics relevant to Canadian physicians. His mission through podcasting is to learn, share, and support his colleagues across the country.

Dr. Wing Lim talks with Nicolas Johnson about the Critical Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (CMETC) and flow-through share investments in Canada. Nicolas has had an international career ranging from journalism for Bloomberg News in Paris and Tokyo to working with a Canadian investment fund focused on resource exploration. He explains to Wing why the government established the Flow-Through Share Program to encourage private investment in exploration for critical minerals like copper, nickel, lithium, and uranium, all of which are essential for the low-carbon economy, AI, electric vehicles, and more.

Tax benefits of investment in resource exploration include a 100% income deduction for the invested amount, a 30% Critical Mineral Exploration Tax Credit on eligible investments, as well as potential returns from high-performing exploration companies. Though it’s high risk due to the speculative nature of mining startups, for incorporated professionals and high-income earners, flow-through shares can be a valuable year-end tax planning tool. Nicolas advises investors to understand the risks, eligibility requirements, and importance of professional fund management but also highlights the patriotic and economic significance of investing in Canadian critical mineral projects.

      About Nicolas Johnson:

Nicolas joined Accilent Capital Management in late 2024 to expand support for financial advisors offering the Pavilion Flow-Through Fund. Pavilion aims for capital appreciation and significant tax benefits in the context of the Canadian government’s Flow-Through Share program. He previously worked 15 years in financial services, including more than a decade as a reporter and editor at Bloomberg News in Europe and Asia, followed by a stint as an investment reporter at The Globe and Mail in Toronto.

Nicolas has also worked in advocacy, policy analysis, and strategic communication and trained as a coach. He is a big advocate for personal empowerment, responsibility, and liberty.
