  • The Sextant on the Sealed Sill: Coordinates from a Dead Astronomer
    1 Nov 2026
The Sextant on the Sealed Sill: Coordinates from a Dead Astronomer

A sealed corridor, an untouched brass sextant, and a hand-scrawled right-ascension that belonged to an astronomer who died fifty-five years earlier - the discovery began with a county surveyor photographing a window with its paint seal unbroken. Why was an instrument placed on the exterior sill of a corridor that had been drywall-sealed since 1994, carrying coordinates that match a decades-old observation?

In this episode, we present the events surrounding the discovery and the records that followed, from a surveyor's morning in July 2019 to an archivist's temperature logs and a lecturer's routine, asking whether the building itself recorded something inexplicable.

    Person: Denise Baker
    Date: July 9, 2019
Location: exterior window sill of corridor at Harwick Observatory residence wing
    Person: Harlan Voss
    Data: card reading 13h 29m 47s right-ascension

    - The sextant was found on the exterior sill of the third window from the east end of a sealed corridor on July 9, 2019.
    - The corridor had been sealed from the inside with drywall since 1994 and had no interior access; the paint seal on the window frame was unbroken.
    - The card wedged beneath the sextant frame read 13 hours, 29 minutes, 47 seconds - a right-ascension coordinate linked to V-7, a variable star tracked by Harlan Voss.
    - Thomas Reed identified the handwriting as Harlan Voss’s; Voss died in 1964 and had built the dome in 1928.
    - HVAC sensor logs from May 2018-July 2019 showed 23 dates with unexplained temperature drops of 4-7°F lasting 40-90 minutes, each within 18 hours of the coordinate’s meridian transit.

  • Locked Drawer, Century-Old Ledger, and the Smell of Woodsmoke
    31 Oct 2026
Locked Drawer, Century-Old Ledger, and the Smell of Woodsmoke

In this episode, we tell the documented sequence of what was found at Milepost Crossing, who discovered it, what federal records reveal across decades, and what remains officially unexplained: can a sealed archival report and two separate incidents across fifty-five years be pointing to the same unresolved event?

    Person: Peggy Hall
    Date: June 7, 2017
Location: Milepost Crossing, southern New Mexico, forty-one miles southeast of Garfield on State Route Nine
    Person: Bernard Ketch
Status: Ledger found inside locked drawer that had not been accessed in fourteen months

    - Peggy Hall was a sixty-one-year-old officer with twenty-three years on the southern New Mexico border and missed her Wednesday volunteer shift on June 7, 2017.
    - The drawer containing the ledger had been locked and records showed no logged access to the regional key safe in the preceding fourteen months.
    - The ledger measured approximately nine-by-twelve inches, had a cracked spine, water-stained pages, and handwriting in blue-black ink in both Spanish and English.
    - Bernard Ketch filed three memos in 1962 describing woodsmoke and copper smells and papers appearing in a locked wooden cabinet; his memos led to his transfer and were sealed.
    - The sealed archival report included a restriction citing "reputational sensitivity regarding personnel conduct" and took eleven days and two phone calls to unseal.

  • The Yard that Pushed Water Up: Secrets Beneath Sycamore Lane
    30 Oct 2026
The Yard that Pushed Water Up: Secrets Beneath Sycamore Lane

A vertical column of water, four feet wide and two feet tall, rose from a dry backyard and held its shape for eight seconds - captured by a retired postal clerk who had been aiming at a bird that never appeared. What could force limestone-filtered water up through soil in a single, coherent burst, leaving crystalline calcium carbonate on a living room baseboard?

In this episode, we lay out the sequence of events recorded in Dellworth, Indiana: the photograph, the tapping sounds inside the house after heavy April rains, the plumber’s inspection, and the lab analysis that tied the residue to pressured groundwater. Where exactly was the fracture beneath fourteen Sycamore Lane, and what finally pushed water through it?

    Person: Alice Stevens
Location: 14 Sycamore Lane, Dellworth, Indiana
Date: May 2019 (photograph taken at 7:15 AM); moved in March 2019; tapping began April 22, 2019
Topic: Vertical water column, tapping sounds, calcium carbonate residue
Author/Photographer: Amy Tucker (photograph posted on a birdwatching forum)

    - The water column in Amy Tucker’s photo measured roughly four feet in diameter and two feet tall and remained coherent for about eight seconds.
    - Alice Stevens moved into 14 Sycamore Lane in March 2019 at age 26 after buying the house for $212,000.
    - Tapping noises began on April 22, 2019 at 11:30 PM and recurred, growing "wettest" after three rainfall events in late April - the wettest April Dellworth had recorded since 2008.
    - Plumber Dave Cooke inspected the crawl space in early May, found no burst lines or standing water, charged $80, and suggested the photo was a trick of light.
    - Geology grad student Pat Ogden analyzed the baseboard deposit and identified it as calcium carbonate consistent with limestone-filtered water pushed up under pressure.
