Not every childhood icon had a pair of mouse ears, but this one helped launch the careers of some of the biggest stars of the ’90s and beyond! In this Childhood Icon Shoutout episode, we're heading back to Sam's Disney Channel days to revisit The All-New Mickey Mouse Club.

You know it and you love it! We’re talking about the late-’80s and ’90s revival that brought a whole new generation of Mouseketeers to the screen :) And who knows? Maybe watching Britney, Justin, Christina, and their fellow Mouseketeers helped inspire a few future performers to chase their own dreams!

Follow Sam and Izzy down memory lane to celebrate not just the celebrities the show helped launch, but the magic of children’s media that let young audiences see themselves as performers, storytellers, and entertainers, too! Whether you grew up watching MMC after school or you’re discovering the show for the first time, grab your Mouseketeer ears and get ready to sing, dance, laugh, and reminisce with us. Now let’s get into it!

Ohhhh boy are you in for a treat today! Sam and Izzy got to hang out with the one and only Katie Leigh, and now it's your turn to hang with all of us!!! Katie is almost definitely one of the most prolific voices of your childhood - if you think you've never heard her...I'm going to hazard a guess that you're wrong lol.

Listen to us talk about basically everything under the sun and then some (to paraphrase Katie quoting Anne of Green Gables, "If only you knew what we don't say..."). And when you're done soaking in all of her wisdom and laughing at our antics, you can check out the many projects that she's got in the works!

We told you we could read! To start October (aka "Celebrating the Bilingual Child" Month) off right, Sam and Izzy are talking about The Bilingual Brain by Albert Costa - a fascinating book about the science of language and how it impacts all of us from birth (or even earlier!) to old age. We've also got some resources for those of you who are raising and/or teaching some bilingual children yourself!

Read along with us all month - we'll be reading this book all October and discussing our final takeaways in our second Book Club episode, before we reveal the next book on deck! And we want to hear your opinions too, so tell us what you think and let us know if you have any book/tv recommendations about language: you can send us a voice note through the link at the bottom of these show notes, message us on Instagram, or leave a comment on our YouTube channel. Can't wait to hear from youuu!!!
