  • A Lot Less Yelling | Thomas Walls | Operator Mindset Ep. 14
    3 Nov 2026

Thomas Walls spent thirty years on the road with tours like Paul McCartney and Ariana Grande, moving three 747s of gear from city to city. He was the guy nobody saw but everybody needed.

Now he is the founder of TrackSync, a real time operational visibility and communications platform built from the problem he lived in the field. He tells Howie about the night of the Manchester Arena attack, when he was scrolling through radio channels trying to find his crew, and how that gap between what should be happening and what is actually happening became the reason TrackSync exists.

He explains the difference between generative AI, which guesses, and the AI he is building, which counts, and what it takes to go from operator to founder.

Guest: Thomas Walls, founder of TrackSync (tracksync.ai), project manager at PRG.

    Host: Howie Zales, @howiezales.

  • From the Bedside to the Boardroom | Wayne Gillis | Operator Mindset
    19 Oct 2026

Wayne Gillis started his career as a heart ICU nurse and grew into a healthcare CEO. In this episode he tells Howie why healthcare keeps slapping band-aids on problems instead of fixing them: a hierarchical, top down leadership structure that rarely asks the people doing the work what is actually broken.

He walks through the moment the buck finally stopped with him after years as a number two, and why he deliberately built a broad career across revenue cycle, IT operations and clinical leadership instead of specializing.

A Lean Six Sigma executive, he explains what the Toyota production model taught manufacturing that healthcare still has not adopted: everybody has the ability to stop the line. He also lays out where artificial intelligence belongs in healthcare, as a partner to nurses and doctors that spots the warning signs sooner, and why rolling AI out through the same hierarchy will produce the same results.

Howie shares how he uses Athena, the show's AI co-host, as a business coach in his pocket, and Wayne names the one thing he would change about how hospitals operate today.

  • The Voice in Someone's Ear | Tyrrell Baker | Operator Mindset
    17 Sep 2026

Tyrrell Baker fell in love with racing at age two, watching cars from a playpen. Twenty years later he is the voice in a driver's ear at 200 miles an hour.

In this episode he tells Howie how thousands of hours in a racing simulator became muscle memory the day he hit black ice on the way to work. He gave himself three seconds to panic, then pulled the e-brake, drifted the car around the corner and feathered the throttle so it would not spin. "It was all second nature. I had no fear. I was in complete control."

That is the thread running through the whole conversation. Reps you put in when nothing is on the line become the thing you reach for when everything is.

Tyrrell also breaks down what a spotter actually does. Race cars have no side mirrors and a blocked rearview, so the driver genuinely cannot see what is beside him. Someone else has to. He talks about the two fuel-mileage wins he took with driver Brandon Kwame, and what it felt like to be the calm voice that kept him steady when the tank was almost dry.

Howie pushes him on the part most people skip: telling the story. And Athena, the show's AI co-host, lands the line that reframes the whole episode.
