  • Ep. 5. Squeezed at Augusta: What Rory's Masters Win Teaches Every Golfer About Pressure
    Apr 7 2026

A note from Bo and Shannon: This episode goes to some deeply personal places for us including our faith. We're men who follow Christ, and we don't separate that from how we approach performance, pressure, or the game of golf. If you share that faith, we think this episode is going to hit differently. If you don't — we believe these principles stand on their own, backed by the same science we've been sharing across every episode. The research on mental training, visualization, and the power of what you rehearse in your mind works regardless of worldview. You are welcome here exactly as you are.

When life or golf squeezes you...what comes out?

Is it frustration? Doubt? Fear? Or calm confidence and focused determination?

This week Bo and Shannon recorded something different. With Masters Week this week and Easter Sunday fresh in everyone's hearts, they felt led to bring you an episode that goes beyond the mechanics of peak performance and into the deeper question underneath it all, what are you actually made of when it matters most?

Opening with Rory McIlroy's extraordinary Masters win after eleven years of waiting, the double bogey on the first hole, Bryson breathing down his neck, and the unwavering focus that never cracked... Bo and Shannon use one of the most dramatic moments in recent golf history to illustrate a principle that applies to every round you'll ever play.

Pressure doesn't define you. But it does reveal you.

And the good news is — what comes out when you're squeezed is something you can train.

    In this episode you'll hear:

    — Why you don't rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your training and what that means for every pressure shot you face

    — The E + R = O framework and how the same event can lead to completely different outcomes depending entirely on your response

    — Shannon's bike ride story — how he turned a broken brake at mile ten into a faster average speed over the final thirty miles, and exactly how to apply that same mindset to a rough start on the front nine

    — The full Sandra Gal story — the LPGA pro on medical exemption who went from "I'm not returning to competition this year" to shooting 3-under and tying for third in her first competitive round back in over a year

    — Tom Watson's famous weather mindset and why the toughest conditions in golf can actually be your biggest advantage

    — Power Talk — the specific phrases you can deposit into your brain account before the pressure ever arrives, so you can make the right withdrawal when it counts

    — What adversity, setbacks, and the moments that feel like they're burying you actually have in common with a planted seed

Bo and Shannon bring their full selves to this one — faith, performance science, real stories, and the honest truth about what separates the golfers who fold under pressure from the ones who find another gear.

Your separation is in your preparation. And every moment is a training moment.

This is a bonus episode — a gift for Masters Week and the season o

  • Ep. 4. CPR & The Release Routine: The Two Missing Pieces That Make the System Automatic
    Apr 7 2026

You've got the trigger. You've got the breathing. You've got the mental imagery. But there's still one thing missing...the piece that turns all of it from helpful into automatic.

That's what Episode 4 is all about.

CPR — Consistent Passionate Reaction is the most frequently asked question Bo and Shannon get from everyone who goes through the system. And there's a reason. It's the emotional glue that holds everything together. Without it, your trigger fires but your brain splits its attention between the target, worry, mechanics, and whatever your playing partner said two holes ago. With it, everything closes in on one direction. Locked in. Fully committed. Every single time.

In this episode Bo and Shannon finally go deep on CPR and then give you the second piece that every golfer desperately needs but almost nobody has ever been taught: the release routine. What you do after a bad shot determines the rest of your round more than the bad shot itself ever will.

    Here's what you'll hear:

    — What CPR actually is and why your nervous system needs an emotional target not just a physical one, to organize itself around for every single shot

    — The different types of CPR, from Bo's bull seeing red and Shannon's miniature Conor McGregor to the sniper's calm for putting and how to find the one that fits your game naturally

    — Why CPR is done during mental reps away from the course and becomes completely automatic on the course and the critical mistake most golfers make by trying to do it the wrong way around

    — The three-step release routine: physical motion, focal point, and power talk statement and how it works exactly like your focus trigger, except it locks the door on the bad shot behind you

    — What Ben Hogan did mentally after every bad shot, the mental wall he built so high he literally could not look back over it

    — Tiger's ten-second rule , here it came from, how it kept him in green light state during his prime, and how it led directly to the 2005 Masters chip shot that became a Nike commercial

    — Why complaining and negative self-talk after a bad shot are completely off limits and what Shannon says they actually do to your body coordination and sequencing

    — Shannon's baseball breakdown — why the pitcher grabs dirt and why the batter takes off his glove — and what Major League Baseball has known about mental training that most golfers have never been told

    — The power talk statements that work best right after a bad shot, flush it, next shot, lock in, W.I.N. (What's Important Now), I'm a one shot warrior and how to make them automatic before you ever need them

    — Your homework: come up with your CPR, add it to your mental rep sessions, build your release routine, and practice it at the range until it's as automatic as your swing

This is the episode where the complete system finally snaps into place. Not just how to get in the zone, but how to stay there, recover when you fall out of it, and get back faster than anyone watching you would ever believe.

  • Build Your Zone Trigger: Flip the Switch on Demand
    Mar 31 2026

What if you could stop hoping to “get in the zone” someday… and actually learn how to trigger it on command?

In Episode 3 of the One Round Away Podcast, Bo Watson and Shannon Shuskey pull back the curtain on one of the most powerful ideas in their entire system: how to condition your mind and body to enter a high-performance state when it matters most.

This is the episode where theory starts becoming practical.

Bo and Shannon break down what the zone really is, why most traditional mental game advice falls apart under pressure, and what actually happens in your brain when you move from overthinking into instinctive athletic performance. They explain why your best golf has never happened when you were loaded with swing thoughts, why “just stay present” is not enough, and how elite performers learn to access flow by design instead of by accident.

You’ll also learn the role of breathing, kinesthetic mental imagery, and the custom trigger — a specific physical cue that helps train your brain to recognize and repeat peak performance. Shannon walks through how vivid mental rehearsal actually builds confidence, sharpens focus, lowers anxiety, and helps golfers perform better even before they ever step on the course.

This is the episode that starts showing you how to flip the switch.

If you’ve ever had one of those rounds where everything felt effortless… if you’ve ever wondered why that version of you shows up sometimes but not others… or if you’re tired of fighting your own brain on the first tee…

This episode will show you a different path.

    Not more clutter.
    Not more mechanical overload.
A way to train for trust, freedom, and performance.

Because the zone is not random.

And you may be closer to it than you think.

    You’re just one round away.

  • Why You Stripe It on the Range… and Lose It on the First Tee
    Mar 31 2026

What if the reason you keep shooting the same scores… is because you’ve been practicing the wrong course the entire time?

In Episode 2 of the One Round Away Podcast, Bo Watson and Shannon Shuskey unpack one of the most important ideas in golf performance: the real course you’re playing every single day is the six inches between your ears.

This is the episode that shifts everything.

Bo and Shannon break down why the average golfer keeps chasing more lessons, more swing thoughts, more range time, and more information… yet still sees almost no real improvement. They tackle the massive disconnect between the range and the course, why golfers can look incredible in practice and then become a completely different player under pressure, and why the biggest gains in your game may have nothing to do with another swing tip.

You’ll also hear why golf is far more mental than most players realize, how your thoughts are either building confidence or draining it, and why most golfers are making constant withdrawals from what Shannon calls their “brain account” without ever making deposits first. Bo and Shannon also begin laying the groundwork for a new identity — the Caveman Golfer — the player who stops overcomplicating the game and starts performing with instinctive freedom.

If you’ve ever wondered why your game doesn’t transfer from practice to play… why one bad hole can wreck an entire round… or why you know you’re capable of more but can’t seem to access it when it counts…

    This episode will hit home.

And before you listen to the next episode, Bo and Shannon invite you to take their free mental game assessment so you can identify your personal missing link and start making the right adjustments.

You’re not as far away as you think.

    You’re just one round away.

  • You’re One Round Away: Our Story & Why the Mental Game Wins
    Mar 31 2026

What if the biggest thing holding your golf game back… isn’t your swing?

In Episode 1 of the One Round Away Podcast, Bo Watson and Shannon Shuskey share the incredible story behind how this movement began — from Bo walking away from golf completely after years of frustration as both a player and coach… to Shannon becoming a national champion speed skater after being born severely club-footed and discovering how to trigger peak performance on demand.

This is more than an origin story.

It’s the episode that sets the foundation for everything to come.

You’ll hear how one dinner conversation in 2018 changed both of their lives… how Bo went from not touching his clubs for two years to shooting under par in 6 of his next 8 rounds… and why all the swing knowledge in the world still wasn’t solving the real problem for so many golfers.

Because what they discovered is this:

Most golfers are not nearly as far away as they think.

    They’re not missing more tips.
    They’re not missing more mechanics.
They’re missing the ability to perform freely when it matters most.

In this episode, you’ll learn why your best golf may be closer than you think, why the mental game has been misunderstood for far too long, and why your greatest breakthrough might begin the moment you stop trying to force your game… and start learning how to trust it.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re practicing better than you play… like you know there’s more in you… or like you’re tired of inconsistency stealing the game you know you’re capable of…

    This episode is for you.

    Welcome to One Round Away.

    You’re just one round away.
