Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season could not have gone much worse for the NFC South.
All four teams opened the season with losses, leaving the division searching for answers after a brutal opening weekend.
The New Orleans Saints came agonizingly close to stealing a victory in Detroit, falling 31-30 in overtime after Tyler Shough's late touchdown drive was followed by a failed two-point conversion. Shough threw for 410 yards and three touchdowns, while Chris Olave exploded for 182 receiving yards.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also struggled, falling 33-27 to Cincinnati after committing four turnovers. Baker Mayfield threw for 216 yards, but Tampa Bay couldn't overcome the mistakes.
The Atlanta Falcons lost 20-13 to Pittsburgh, with Cooper Rush throwing two interceptions while the offense managed only 238 total yards.
And then there were the Carolina Panthers.
Carolina scored 37 points but still lost 59-37 to Chicago in the highest-scoring Week 1 game in NFL history.
So what went wrong across the division?
Are the Saints closer than their record suggests? Can Tampa Bay clean up the turnovers? Is Atlanta's offense a major concern? And what can Carolina do about a defense that just surrendered 59 points?
The NFC South Roundtable breaks down all four teams, the biggest Week 1 disappointments, standout performances, and what each team needs to fix heading into Week 2.
The entire NFC South is 0-1. Let the panic begin!
