  • Therapy Talks Ep 1: Eating Disorders & Body Image w/ Donna Fish
    11 Aug 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

Introducing JNewellness Therapy Talks 🎀 — a new series bringing licensed mental health professionals into honest, accessible conversations about the issues we don't talk about enough. For our first Therapy Talk, Janelle sits down with licensed clinical social worker, former professional dancer, and eating disorder specialist Donna Fish to discuss the complicated relationship between dance, food, body image, and mental health. After spending 10 years as a professional dancer, Donna went on to specialize in eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, body image, and performance anxiety—and now trains therapists around the world. We talk about: 🎀 eating disorders and disordered eating in dancers 🎀 ballet culture and the pressure to be thin 🎀 intuitive eating and breaking the restrict–binge cycle 🎀 why labeling foods “good” or “bad” can backfire 🎀 comparison, perfectionism, rejection, and self-worth 🎀 anxiety and automatic negative thoughts 🎀 learning to work with your emotions instead of fighting them 🎀 how parents and dance teachers can better support struggling dancers 🎀 building a healthier relationship with food, your body, and yourself Donna also shares her own experience with restrictive eating as a professional dancer and why one of her biggest messages to young dancers is to avoid overly depriving themselves or restricting the foods they love. Whether you're a dancer, athlete, student, parent, teacher, or someone who's ever struggled with food or body image, this conversation is for you. • Why We Accept the Love We Think We Deserve
    20 Sep 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

Why do we accept less than we deserve in relationships? And why can it be so hard to walk away, even when we know someone isn't treating us right? In this episode of the JNewellness Podcast, I’m getting personal about self-esteem, validation, attachment, race, dating, sex, and how the relationships we grow up around shape the love we accept later in life. We talk about how childhood neglect and constantly having to “earn” validation can follow us into our romantic relationships, why physical intimacy can make us feel attached to people who aren't right for us, and why sometimes we don't actually miss the person—we miss who we got to feel like when they wanted us. I also talk about my experience growing up as a Black woman struggling with internalized racism, Eurocentric beauty standards, colorism, hair, and feeling undesirable—and how those experiences affected the way I approached dating and relationships. I get into interracial dating, why people assume I have a racial preference, my experiences with men putting in different levels of effort, and why I refuse to lower my expectations just to feel chosen. Plus, we’re talking Love Island Season 8, Aniya, Melanie, Kenzie, traditional relationship dynamics, being “dickmatized,” learning to trust people's words AND actions, and why someone saying they're “not ready for commitment” may be all the information you need. One of the biggest things I've had to learn is this: Your value doesn't have to be negotiated. You don't have to stay longer, love harder, give more, look prettier, or make yourself easier to choose just to prove that you're worthy of being loved. I no longer have a desire to be chosen. If someone wants to approach me, they should know who I am, because you can't just step to me in any which way. Come correct. And that's on "." 💗
