DAY 303🔥 “SAVED BY GRACE”Series: THE CHURCH IS BORN📖 Acts 15Jesus Christ is not part of our salvation. He is the complete and sufficient Savior! In Acts 15, the early church faces one of the most significant doctrinal challenges in its history. The issue isn't persecution, imprisonment, or opposition from the outside world. This time, the very message of salvation is being challenged from within the church!Certain individuals begin teaching that Gentile believers must be circumcised and follow the law of Moses in order to be saved. In other words, they were saying that faith in Jesus Christ wasn't enough. You needed Jesus PLUS religious requirements.Jesus PLUS obedience to certain traditions.Jesus PLUS human effort. But Paul and Barnabas recognized the danger immediately. The moment we add human requirements to the finished work of Jesus Christ as a condition of salvation, we undermine the very gospel we claim to believe! The apostles and elders gather in Jerusalem to address the controversy.Peter reminds them of what God had already accomplished among the Gentiles.God had given them the Holy Spirit. He had cleansed their hearts through faith. And He had made no distinction between Jewish and Gentile believers when it came to salvation. Then Peter makes one of the clearest declarations about salvation in the New Testament:📖 Acts 15:11"But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will."SALVATION IS BY GRACE!Not through religious performance. Not through keeping enough rules. Not through church membership. Not through baptism or religious ceremonies. Not through being a good person.Salvation is God's gracious gift, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone!Jesus lived the sinless life we could never live.He died the sacrificial death we deserved. He rose victoriously from the grave. And through repentance and faith in Him, sinners receive forgiveness, justification, and eternal life. The gospel is not about what we must accomplish to earn God's acceptance. It is about what Jesus Christ has already accomplished to save us!As the Jerusalem council continues, James turns to the Old Testament Scriptures to demonstrate that God's plan to include the Gentiles was consistent with His promises. The church reaches a unified decision.Gentile believers are not required to become Jewish in order to be saved. And when that message reaches the church at Antioch, the believers rejoice! Why?Because the truth of the gospel has been preserved.🔥 Five powerful lessons from Acts 15:✅ 1. Salvation is by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ. We cannot earn forgiveness through good works, religious traditions, or personal effort. Our salvation rests entirely upon the finished work of Jesus.✅ 2. We must never add human requirements to the gospel. The early church rejected the teaching that circumcision was necessary for salvation. Anything that makes human performance the basis of our acceptance before God distorts the gospel.✅ 3. Biblical unity must always be rooted in biblical truth. The apostles did not preserve unity by ignoring false teaching. They examined the Scriptures, defended the gospel, and brought clarity to the church.✅ 4. Grace produces obedience, not permission to sin.Although good works cannot save us, genuine saving faith produces a transformed life. We obey God because we have been saved, not to earn salvation.✅ 5. Faithful believers must distinguish essential doctrine from personal disagreements. The chapter concludes with a sharp disagreement between Paul and Barnabas over John Mark. Their conflict reminds us that even mature believers can disagree, but those disagreements should never distract us from the mission of Christ. And here's something I believe every Christian needs to understand.Grace doesn't mean our obedience doesn't matter. It means our obedience is no longer an attempt to purchase what Jesus Christ has already provided! We don't read Scripture to make God love us.We read Scripture because we love the God who has saved us.We don't pray to earn our salvation. We pray because we have been brought into a relationship with our heavenly Father. We don't serve the church to gain God's acceptance. We serve because His grace has transformed our hearts. And we don't pursue holiness to become worthy of salvation. We pursue holiness because we belong to the Savior who has redeemed us.📖 Ephesians 2:8–9"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."What a glorious truth! The Christian life is not about working FOR salvation. It is about living FROM the salvation Jesus Christ has already secured! And that raises an important question. Are you resting in the finished work of Jesus Christ, or are you still trying to earn something He has already accomplished for you?Perhaps you've been measuring your spiritual standing by how well you've performed. When you ...
