  • 010 - It's an Elk Hunt, Not a Marathon!
    Aug 10 2026
Jack and Rob discuss the caloric burn and physical demands of backpack hunting compared to other high output and endurance sports or events. The big difference comes in the dynamic of doing something that takes days on end vs a single day effort. The goal here is not to have an abstract conversation, but to be as specific as possible on the exact caloric and physical demands. They discuss realities and strategies around hunt duration, access to resources, ability to recover, nutrition, increasing capacity, and managing cumulative fatigue. They also go over lots of scenarious outlining how effort and output change with changes in pack and bodyweight.
