Most paranormal talk stops at scary stories. We wanted something more useful, so we brought on Chris and Jenn Talley from the New Orleans Paranormal Society to get specific about what actually works when you’re doing real paranormal investigation in New Orleans and what can go wrong when people copy TV tactics. We get into accuracy and ethics in haunted history, why the ghost tour industry still spreads myths, and how respect for the dead can change the results you get with tools like spirit boxes, EMF meters, SLS cameras, FLIR, and thermal cameras.

Chris and Jenn share how repeat visits build a relationship with a location, why music can be a powerful trigger for interaction, and what they call the Vlad method for testing responses. We also talk about the Andrew Jackson Hotel, childlike activity, and a long-term case involving “Paul,” including what a crossing attempt can look like when you take the human story seriously. Along the way we challenge the “everything is a demon” narrative, discuss attachments, cleansing after investigations, and the difference between negative energy and fear-driven storytelling.

Then we zoom out into the big question: what are ghosts, really? Tim lays out a consciousness theory that treats consciousness as a field in the universe that brains receive rather than create, and we explore how that idea could connect to paranormal phenomena. All of it ties into why they’re building New Orleans Paracon (July 31 to August 2 at the Crowne Plaza): an education-first paranormal convention with panels, workshops, vendors, and nightly investigations in the French Quarter.
