At Every Texan, we believe the state budget is a moral document that should reflect the values and meet the needs of all Texans, regardless of zip code, race, gender, or background. That’s why we’re starting our journey through the legislative session right at the epicenter of all state policy: the state budget. This document dictates how YOUR state dollars can be spent for the next two years. Any policy, bill, law, or initiative that the legislature passes is somehow tied to the budget. Today, we’re bringing three voices together to give you a balanced view of how the state budget is created, how it works or doesn’t work for Texans, and why every Texan should care about how public dollars are spent.
