In this episode of The Birth Pause, Chloe checks in after a run of back-to-back births kept her off the mic for two weeks, and shares that she's shifting the show to a biweekly release instead of weekly. She then sits down with Ashley Taylor, who tells the story of birthing her son, Johnny Douglas, at home.
Ashley traces her preparation back to an unconventional choice: taking up ballet during pregnancy, drawing on a yoga background and her experience managing scoliosis, as a way to stay light on her feet while working on alignment. She describes trusting the home birth path in part because of a personal history of healing without relying on medical intervention, and because everything about the pregnancy — including how she met her partner, Kurt — had felt guided and "supernatural."
Labor itself ran long: roughly 24 to 26 hours, marked by an intense, unrelenting first night, difficulty eating or resting, and a spiraling pattern of contractions that plateaued and intensified in waves. Ashley recounts several distinct moments of surrender — a reprieve in the birth pool accompanied by a vivid visualization, and later, a physical collapse to the floor when she had nothing left to give — before the fetal ejection reflex took over and pushing began. Musician Robin King's live drumming, singing bowls, and feather ceremonies are woven through the story as tools that held spiritual space for the room, letting Ashley stay internally focused rather than having to generate that atmosphere herself.

About The Birth Pause
Chloe searched for an existing podcast to share this story and couldn't find one that felt right. Most birth story podcasts offered long, linear play-by-plays from start to finish. What she wanted was something different — interview style conversations with the families she's attended, blending their lived experience with her clinical insight, told together, in each other's presence.
The Birth Pause explores birth not as a medical event but as a spiritual and personal transformation. Each episode asks not what happened, but what it did to you.
Hosted by Chloe Campbell — licensed midwife, founder of Supernatural Midwifery, and someone who has sat at the threshold with hundreds of families across New York City. This is not a play-by-play. This is the story underneath the story.
