Neil Berkeley, director of Netflix's Who Is Martin Mull?, joins Kate to talk about the comedian, actor, musician, and painter best known for Clue, Mr. Mom, Fernwood Tonight, and Roseanne, whose true passion was painting. Neil explains how the documentary began with Bob Saget, stalled after Saget's death, and found new life when he stepped in to film Martin alone, with no crew, just months before Martin passed away. We discuss Martin's painful relationship with his father and how it surfaced in his art, his friendships with Fred Willard, Norman Lear, and Steve Martin, and the emotional moment his wife, Wendy, learns what Martin said about her on camera. Neil also previews his next Netflix film, Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story, made with Judd Apatow and out October 23.
