While best known as founder of Domino’s Pizza and former owner of the Detroit Tigers, Tom Monaghan sold Domino’s Pizza in 1998 to Bain Capital, Inc., leaving behind its day-to-day operations, which he had overseen for 38 years. Since then, he has been working full time to help the Church through the Ave Maria Foundation, which is a foundation that he established to assist the various Catholic apostolates that he founded.

    In 1987, Tom founded Legatus, an international organization of Catholic CEOs and presidents, committed to studying, living and spreading their faith through their professional and personal lives. In addition to Legatus, Tom’s focus has primarily been in the area of Catholic higher education. He is the founder of both Ave Maria University, a comprehensive Catholic liberal arts university located in the town of Ave Maria in southwest Florida, and Ave Maria School of Law which is a Catholic law school located in Naples, Florida.

    In 1962, Tom and Marjorie Zybach were married in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they raised their family. After more than 60 years of marriage, Marge passed away in the summer of 2023. Her legacy lives on in their four daughters, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

    An authorized biography, entitled Monaghan, A Life, was written by Joseph Pearce and published by Tan Books in 2016, which captures highlights of Tom’s life. In November of 2024, he married Dr. Marianne Mason and they reside in Naples, Florida.
