Crown and Controversy - Norway tells the story of a monarchy unlike any other in Europe - a royal family balancing duty, scandal, modern celebrity, and personal crisis in full public view.

From the controversial rise of Crown Princess Mette-Marit to the extraordinary marriage of Princess Märtha Louise and self-described shaman Durek Verrett, this series explores the events that have transformed Norway’s royal family from one of Europe’s most beloved monarchies into one of its most closely watched.

Along the way, we’ll examine the health struggles facing the future queen. Mette-Marit has battled pulmonary fibrosis for years, and recent developments have raised serious concerns about her condition, with public discussions now including the possibility of a future lung transplant.

We’ll also follow the unprecedented legal saga surrounding Marius Borg Høiby, whose criminal case has sent shockwaves through Norway and placed the royal family under intense scrutiny. The allegations, court proceedings, and public reaction have become one of the biggest challenges the monarchy has faced in decades.

Featuring kings, queens, heirs, scandals, celebrity culture, family drama, health battles, and questions about the future of the monarchy itself, Norway’s Royal Rebels is the complete story of a royal family navigating the pressures of the modern age while the entire nation watches.

New episodes explore the people, controversies, and turning points shaping the Norwegian royal family — from palace corridors in Oslo to international headlines around the world.Caloroga Shark Media Politics & Government Social Sciences

  • King Haakon VIII Takes Norway’s Constitutional Oath as Queen Mette-Marit Misses Ceremony

King Haakon VIII Takes Norway’s Constitutional Oath as Queen Mette-Marit Misses Ceremony
    1 Sep 2026
What happens after a new Norwegian king takes the throne? King Haakon VIII has formally sworn allegiance to Norway’s constitution four days after the death of his father, King Harald V. Appearing before the Storting, Norway’s parliament, Haakon promised to govern according to the country’s constitution and laws and adopted the historic royal motto “All for Norway.”

Why was Queen Mette-Marit absent from King Haakon’s swearing-in ceremony? The palace says the Queen remained under medical observation because of complications following her June lung transplant.

We also examine the controversial appearance of Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, in the Royal Family’s private funeral procession. Why was Høiby allowed to participate while serving a four-year prison sentence for rape and assault? Why was he included alongside Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus—and what does his presence reveal about King Haakon’s promise that the family will remain united?
Plus, where is King Harald lying in state, how can the Norwegian public pay its respects, and what will happen before his state funeral at Oslo Cathedral on September 9?
