  • We Are Vennum | PHASE 7: POSSESSIONS
    4 Oct 2026

What if possession wasn’t about demons? What if you didn’t get dragged kicking and screaming into Hell…but instead, you just woke up one day, and somebody else was driving?

Welcome to Watseka, Illinois, where in the late 1870s, a young girl named Lurancy Vennum began slipping into strange trances, claiming to see spirits and eventually insisting that she was being visited by the spirit of a girl who had died years earlier.

Her name was Mary Roff. And according to the people who witnessed it, Mary didn’t just talk through Lurancy. She knew things, recognized people, and remembered places. This is the Watseka Wonder, one of the strangest and most heavily discussed possession cases to emerge from America’s Spiritualist movement.

But this episode isn’t just about Mary Roff; because possession is not an exclusively Christian phenomenon, and demons aren’t the only entities humanity has blamed for taking the wheel. So we’re opening the Cottage doors and taking a trip around the world to look at the many faces of possession: spirits, ancestors, djinn, wandering souls, trance states, cultural beliefs, and the very strange places where psychology, religion, folklore, and genuine human experience start stepping on each other’s toes.

Is possession a supernatural invasion? A psychological phenomenon? A cultural language for experiences we don’t yet understand? Or did Lurancy Vennum really become somebody else?

    Either way…we are Vennum.

  • Combustion Girl and Rain Boy (FT The Warrens) | PHASE 7: POSSESSIONS
    23 Aug 2026
It's raining men! And they're all possessed! Oliver dissects 2 alarming and distressing cases whilst uncovering the dark truths of how these "supernatural events" affect real people day-to-day, long-term. Watch out, it's the Return of the Warrens! That's right, Ollie couldn't resist and reveals the truth behind the Enfield Haunting (UK 1977). From the Warrens' true involvement to the victims' reaction to the film 40 years later...Camilla breaks down the possession case of Donald Decker. Homie can make it rain at will, at least that's what the reports said...Is he cursed? Possessed? Perhaps a talented magician from Now You See Me? Thankfully, Camilla has all the answers for us as always. Finally, Oliver caps it off with his final yarn all about the Jaboticabal Poltergeist, an entity so malevolent that it set a little girl on fire numerous times. This 11-year-old victim was not only burned, but hounded everywhere she went with innumerable forms of torture, all studied at length within normal settings like school, church, doctor's offices, home, and visiting neighbors. Get ready to wriggle and writhe to yet another haunting chronicle of Creep Cottage's Night School!SOURCES:Don Deckerhttps://unsolved.com/gallery/don-decker/https://www.wnep.com/article/news/local/monroe-county/rainman-charged-with-arson/523-34b367e9-9450-4cbf-a1ea-362c2bd0a52dhttps://online.mhjc.school.nz/pluginfile.php/201951/mod_resource/content/1/The%20Devil%20and%20Don%20Decker.pdfhttps://www.timesleader.com/archive/853398/the-mystery-of-stroudsburgs-rain-boy-a-drifter-took-shelter-in-a-stroudsburg-home-in-1983-sparking-a-sensational-story-that-has-not-yet-fadedhttps://medium.com/@dipeshpiplani/the-rain-man-case-the-true-haunting-of-don-decker-a55250093847Enfield HauntingGrosse, Maurice, and Guy Lyon Playfair. “Enfield Revisited: The Evaporation of Positive Evidence.” Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, Vol. 55, 1989, pp. 208–219.Willin, Melvyn J. “Enfield Poltergeist.” Psi Encyclopedia, Society for Psychical Research.
