What happens when the guy who spent twenty years building one agency ends up helping run one that's nearly a hundred people strong? In this episode, Ethan Decker sits down with Jason Clark, CMO of Tectonic, to talk about the rebrand that took his company from a dated, easily overlooked name to something that reads big, solid, and built to last. Jason walks through the thinking behind the name Tectonic, the moment he realized his old agency was too small to win the clients he wanted, and the difference between a rebrand that sticks and one that flops. Ethan brings the science behind why certain names and sounds just feel right, and the two dig into what it really means to separate your reputation from your logo. Expect sharp stories, some surprising brand science, and a couple of very memorable side trips into hair metal and Lebowski Fest. Great for founders, marketers, and anyone who has ever had to talk leadership into a rename.

• Why Jason sold his twenty year old agency, and what losing a major pitch taught him about being the right size for the clients he wanted
• The thinking behind Tectonic's name and rebrand, and why the goal was to sound big, solid, and a little bit vague on purpose
• Little b brand versus Big B brand, and how much equity can get destroyed when a name or logo changes too fast
• The physical, almost bodily science of why some words and sounds just feel right, and how that shapes how a brand is perceived
• What separates a rebrand that actually clicks from one that flops, and why ego is usually the reason it fails

What happens when a thirty year old tech company decides it's done being a "house of brands" and become one unified brand instead? In this episode, Ethan Decker talks with Dusty Gulleson, founder and CEO of Tectonic, about the surprising realities behind building a lasting business. Dusty shares how his company grew from a scrappy content management shop into a vertically integrated technology partner almost entirely by following client curiosity rather than a five year plan, and why he doesn't buy into the myth of first mover advantage. Ethan and Dusty dig into the science of probability in marketing, the difference between the brand you claim and the brand you actually deliver, and why premium positioning falls apart the moment the people and process behind it aren't premium too. A candid conversation about strategy, luck, and what it really takes to build something that lasts.

• Why first mover advantage is mostly a myth, and what actually predicts long term success
• How curiosity, not a grand strategy, quietly built a vertically integrated technology company
• The role of probability and luck in marketing success, and why more at bats beats a perfect plan
• Shifting from a house of brands to a branded house, and what that means for how clients experience a company
• Big B brand versus Little B brand, and why premium positioning means nothing without premium people and process behind it

Ever notice how the businesses spending the most on marketing often seem to be getting the least out of it? In this episode, Ethan Decker sits down with Gee Ranasinha, founder of KEXINO, to dig into why so many "marketers" are really just doing comms, and why that confusion is quietly wrecking growth for small and mid-sized B2B companies. Gee and Ethan trade stories about founders who won't say no to anything, the evolutionary reasons B2B buyers play it safe, and why trying to be all things to all people is a race to the bottom on price. Expect sharp analogies, a little biology, and a shared conviction that narrowing your focus is the fastest way to actually get noticed. Great for founders, in-house marketers, and anyone who has ever been asked to just make the deck look prettier.

• Why so many people with marketing in their job title are actually just doing communications, and what real marketing has quietly lost over the past fifty years
• The founder's dilemma of not wanting to say no to anything, and how that turns a business into a commodity
• Why B2B buyers aren't chasing the best option, they're chasing the least risky one, and the evolutionary biology behind that instinct
• How narrowing your focus, like Canva starting with high school yearbooks, can be a smarter path to growth than trying to out-Photoshop Photoshop
