There are some conversations we avoid because they're uncomfortable.
But people are more complicated than labels. Social issues are more complicated than headlines. And the problems affecting our country don't disappear simply because we don't want to talk about them.
This episode of From Dirt We Grow, is just to introduce the taboo topics we avoid that, one at a time in the coming weeks, I'll be opening the door to have these conversations. By bringing in people with lived experiences, challenging assumptions often reached due to misinformation, examining uncomfortable truths, and trying to understand the human beings underneath the issues we so often reduce to arguments.
There's another reason these conversations matter, a reality bigger than our feelings and beliefs: Our kids are going to inherit the world we're creating right now. If we're too divided to listen to each other, too uncomfortable to question ourselves, or too afraid to have difficult conversations, what kind of future are we leaving them?
Maybe unity doesn't mean agreeing. Maybe it means being willing to sit across from someone who sees the world differently and still recognize their humanity. Because a little discomfort now may be the price we have to pay to prevent something far worse later.
So let's talk about the things we don't talk about. Because if we never talk about them... how the hell are we ever going to change them?
