  • EP 141: You're Not Stuck, You're Off Course
    23 Oct 2026
Land navigation is more than a lesson about using a compass. It is a lesson about the difference between moving through life and deliberately making your way toward the life you want. A person can walk all day, burn tremendous energy, overcome obstacles, and still end up nowhere near the destination. The same thing happens to dreamers. They work, sacrifice, stay busy, and keep moving, but without a clear destination and the ability to correct their course, they can spend years getting further away from the dreams they once held close to their hearts. Here is the hard truth at the center of this episode: You can be moving with determination and still be moving in the wrong direction. You can be exhausted from the journey and still be lost. And you can possess all the potential in the world and never reach your destination if you don't know how to navigate. A compass tells you direction, while a map helps you understand where you are, what lies ahead, and how to get where you want to go. Neither replaces the other. In dream realization, your dream provides the destination, your plan functions as the map, and your beliefs, decisions, and actions help you navigate. And in the end: The compass is useless without the map I'm Edwin Soler, your dream realization partner and this is the closing the 18-inch gap podcast. "I help professionals that desire to be speakers, authors and/or coaches uncover the beliefs keeping them trapped in unfulfilling lives, so they can finally take courageous action toward the dreams they've put on hold and finally live a life of their choosing and so much deserve." · Quote of the week: "The course of life is unpredictable; no one can write his autobiography in advance." — Abraham Joshua Heschel Here is a step-by-step land navigation process and what it teaches us about our dreams. Points covered: Here is a step-by-step land navigation process and what it teaches us about our dreams 1. Get a map before you start walking. Land navigation: A map shows the terrain, elevation, waterways, trails, obstacles, and potential routes. A compass alone can tell you which direction you are facing, but it cannot tell you where you are in relation to your destination or what stands between you and it. A compass without a map gives you direction without context. Why it matters: Direction without situational awareness can lead you confidently into the wrong place. And confidence will never replace competence. The dream connection: Before you start chasing a dream, you need to know what that dream actually looks like. What do you want your life to become? What would fulfillment look like? What are you trying to create, experience, or change? What does reaching that destination mean to you? A map doesn't walk you to your destination. It gives your journey meaning and structure. Your dream is the destination, and your plan is the map. Stop confusing being busy with knowing where you're going. You can own the best compass in the world and still get lost if you don't have a map. 2. Orient the map to the real world. Land navigation: Align the map with the terrain around you using the compass and the map's north reference. When properly oriented, the features on the map correspond to the features you see on the ground. Why it matters: A map that is misunderstood or oriented incorrectly can cause you to interpret your surroundings incorrectly. The dream connection: You must reconcile your dream with reality. Where are you starting? What skills do you have? What resources are available? What responsibilities must you honor? What obstacles are real, and which ones exist primarily in your imagination? This is not about shrinking your dream to fit your current circumstances. It is about seeing your current circumstances clearly enough to move beyond them. You cannot change your position until you're honest about where you stand. Denial is not navigation. 3. Determine your starting position. Land navigation: Establish where you are on the map. You might identify recognizable terrain features, use a known location, or take bearings to identifiable landmarks to determine your position. Why it matters: If you don't know your starting point, you cannot reliably determine the route to your destination. The dream connection: Take an honest inventory of your life. Are you at the beginning of your journey? Have you been working toward this dream for years? Did you abandon it? Have you spent so much time pleasing others that you've lost touch with what you want? You cannot plan a meaningful route from a fictional starting point. You have to acknowledge your experience, your disappointments, your strengths, and the time you have available. Your starting point is not your identity. It's simply where your journey begins today. 4. Identify your destination before setting out. Land navigation: Locate the objective on the map and determine the route you intend to follow. A destination needs ...

  • EP 140: Remaining Rooted In Your Dreams
    16 Oct 2026
Today I want to bring the concept of plants. More specifically about the roots and while this correlates what can be learned from it as dreams are pursued. The term of remaining rooted has many implications. It deals with soil, weather, care, patience, and many more things. On your journey it's important that you remain rooted. Last week I talked about the 5W's: who, what, where, when, and why. I also spoke about how I will only focus on the why and that was a big mistake. It's a learning process. And you have to be open to learning to keep growing. This certainly ties last week's episode because it encapsulates all of those and much more. The reason I brought this today is because it's important to know that just because you don't see something doesn't mean something isn't happening. Let me explain a little further how this episode got started. I'm preparing for some additions that I am going to implement in our home. One of these things is adding a wood-burning stove. So, you would think you just buy chopped wood and burn it. But I started learning that there's many types of wood, one specific type of wood you never burn anywhere because it's very oily and can cause severe problems in the future as setting fires often a chimney, and wouldn't you know there's even a technique to how to chop wood. As I'm learning all of this I decided to look at a video and see how exactly a big stump of what is chop. I land on his video of an incredibly huge human being with his ax demonstrating how a stump is split. Now this stump was really large. Had to be at least 2 feet wide if not more. And as I see this man wielding his acts hitting the stump all I saw was a giant asked bouncing back like a rubber ball high in the air and hammering again at the stump. This one and for like what seemed forever but then I took a closer look at the video. I saw that on the stump he was not strike the same place but instead was making a line across the wood. What I didn't know was coming was on the very last strike of that stump it's split wide open on the other side where he made his way while he was hitting. And that got me to think, I didn't see what was going on underneath in that stump but something was happening. And eventually split open. It's the same thing with your journey. Like that stump you got a keep whacking at it and although you don't see was going on the inside something is going on until the breakthrough comes through. But that's just one illustration. I don't want to bring something where all I'm talking about is whacking and hitting. I just use it as illustration of although I didn't see what was going on, something was happening that brought the result that was being sought after. Which is simply splitting the wood. Staying rooted, has the same concept. You don't see what was going on underneath but there's a lot happening and eventually when the roots come out and starts to grow and eventually the plant that was planted bears fruit, you reap the rewards of your patience and hard work. And this is what I want to dive into today, what remaining rooted looks like. Even when you don't see any movement. I'm Edwin Soler, your dream realization partner and this is the closing the 18-inch gap podcast. "I help professionals that desire to be speakers, authors and/or coaches uncover the beliefs keeping them trapped in unfulfilling lives, so they can finally take courageous action toward the dreams they've put on hold and finally live a life of their choosing." · Quote of the week: "The world celebrates what it can see, but the strongest growth often happens where no one is looking." James Pierre Points covered: What happens beneath the surface is directly related to what happens above the surface. It's important to identify with the soil your planted in. What ways can you make your roots grow deeper? Grow your roots before the storm comes, not during. The same soil will grow different types of plants and trees. Don't mistake what you can see for silence or inactivity. Trust where you are in your journey even if you don't see it. Don't compare your growth to someone else. Keep watering. Always and I mean always keep weeding and pruning. "There will be periods and seasons where it looked like you were not growing at all. On the surface nothing changed, but underground your roots are spreading bit by bit. There will be seasons when no one sees your progress, but in those very moments... you are growing in the places others cannot see". And if you remain rooted, that's all that's going to really matter. Because it's just a matter time for your growth explode. If you keep in mind the things that have just brought to you today in your journey you're surely going to growing. Growth is not optional. It's a must. The question is how will you grow and how much? A clear path laid out for you to take as you move forward. Today I'm giving here the information. The question is now what ...
