I'm a cosmetology teacher, lifelong learner, mom, leadership volunteer, and enthusiastic collector of hobbies, projects, and random facts. After more than twenty years in the beauty industry as a stylist, salon owner, state inspector, and educator, I've learned that the most interesting conversations rarely stay on a single topic for long.

On Bonus Content, I share stories, lessons, observations, and occasional rabbit holes about teaching, motherhood, personal growth, beauty, career transitions, neurodiversity, and finding joy in ordinary life. Think of it as the conversation that happens after the official meeting ends, when people pull up a chair, refill their coffee, and start talking about what really matters.

When I'm not teaching or recording, you'll usually find me reading, gardening, exploring with my family, watching Star Trek, or being supervised by my cats.

Welcome to Bonus Content—the stuff that didn't fit anywhere else.

What makes a good leader—and what makes a bad one?

For the first episode of Season Two, Jennifer welcomes a very special guest: her seven-year-old son, Isaac, who came up with the topic himself. Together, they explore leadership from a second grader's point of view, from the difference between leading and being bossy to why good leaders listen, help people through mistakes, set reasonable boundaries, and sometimes have to say no.

Along the way, Jennifer and Isaac discover that some of the best leadership principles are surprisingly simple: be kind, help people succeed, listen when someone else has a good idea, and don't make people feel small when they get something wrong.

It turns out you don't need a title—or even need to be a grown-up—to be a good leader.

In this deliberately low-stakes episode, Jennifer applies far more analysis than necessary to the most important question nobody asked: which fast-food restaurants are a pass, and which are a smash? Along the way, she defends McDonald’s nuggets dipped in honey, mourns a long-lost Sonic chicken wrap, declares Braum’s superior to Culver’s, revisits Pizza Hut Fridays and Arby’s coupons, and hands out awards for everything from fries to dirty sodas. There’s nostalgia, menu betrayal, family food diplomacy, and—against better judgment—a fast-food mascot lightning round.

  • 11: Tiny acts of hospitality

Hospitality isn’t about elaborate entertaining or spending money—it’s about paying attention, anticipating ordinary needs, and removing unnecessary barriers to belonging. Through stories of classroom candy jars, snack drawers, welcoming spaces, and small bids for connection, Jennifer explores how thoughtful gestures can make people feel expected, remembered, and safe enough to participate. Tiny acts of hospitality may be nearly invisible, but each one offers a powerful message: there is a place for you here.
