Summary:

Fantasy Romance author CW Rose chats with the Book Babes about writing merfolk romance, her early love of fantasy romance before it was a thing, and some future projects she’s working on that include Chinese mythology.

First we learn about her Oceansong duet Ocean Song and Midnight Song. She describes it as an Asian Romeo meets Juliet meets The Little Mermaid set in the grittiness of the real world. She shares how it was inspired by her love of the water and fascination with the ocean and the possibility of mermaids.

Christine tells us about her love of folklore and mythology and how that leads into the next book she’s currently querying. It features shapeshifting demons, shamans, Fu dogs, and the Chinese versions of dragons and vampires. It’s got a shaman FMC who was trained to hunt demons, but when she has to team up with one to find her brother, they find themselves falling for each other which puts a target on them. It sounds fantastic and the Book Babes can’t wait to see where it goes.

We also learn about a plotting and drafting method called quilting where scenes pop into Christine’s head and she writes them all in her phone notes. Then she has to piece the story together out of all these snippets.

Christine’s trope for life is Forbidden Romance. As long as it has a happy ending.

Do you go based on how many ARCs you have, or are you just a mood reader? And also what do you do if you are a mood reader and you're reading a book and you realize it doesn't hit the way you want it to for any reason, do you DNF or do you push through?
