    • Trollhunter (2010) - Norway
      Apr 3 2024

Okay so the name gives the surprise away but this month we're off to incredible Norway to hunt something giant!

Not to be mistaken for it's Hollywood copy, Troll (2022), the original comes from the brilliant mind of André Øvredal and is set among the views and vistas of Norway. Three young university students follow a hunter they believe to be tracking bears and ultimately find out that he is hunting trolls...and that's it!

However we discuss the lore of the land of the midnight sun, Sam's residency there and how much salmon can one person reasonably consume in 5 weeks?

    • The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) - Ireland
      Mar 1 2024

We're not here for licks...but we are here for this movie. In this month's episode we're off to Ireland to discuss Martin McDonagh's Academy Award Best Picture Nominee.

Polarising opinions from critics and Irish viewers alike, The Banshees of Inisherin centres around two men living on a remote island and the events that unfold after one of them decides that he doesn't want to be friends anymore. This black comedy starring Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell gained international praise, not least for it's stunningly remote location.

We discuss stereotypes of the Irish, the consistency and temperature of Guinness and the idea that even though you technically can stop talking to someone without reason, it's not very nice is it?

    • Monsoon (2019) - Vietnam
      Feb 7 2024

Chúc mừng Năm Mới! (Or Happy New Year to our friends who have not been to Vietnam yet) We are back and excited to start the year off on the right foot in one of Emma's favourite countries.

For January's movie we discuss the 2019 indie film Monsoon. Being one of the only movies about Vietnam that is not pro-American propaganda about the war, Monsoon follows Kit as he tries to get back in touch with his roots while scattering his parents ashes. Hong Khaou directs this subtle fish out of water story that showcases the colours of Vietnam from the South to the North. At the same time, we discuss whether embalming communist leaders is quirky or creepy - this one is a real spectrum guys.
