Noah J. Gibson continues the Gifts of the Spirit series with the discerning of spirits from 1 Corinthians 12, and why it is plural: the gift lets believers discern four categories of spirits found throughout Scripture — the Spirit of God, the spirit of man, angels, and demons. He walks through John's encounter with the risen Christ in Revelation 1, angels assigned to help the heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14, Acts 12, Matthew 18:10), Elisha's servant seeing the army of the Lord in 2 Kings 6, and Paul discerning the spirit of divination in Acts 16. Don't lean into fear or fixate on demons. Be strong in the Lord, put on the whole armor of God, pray in the Spirit, and know there are more with you than against you.

Scripture in this message:

• 1 Corinthians 12:7–11

• Hebrews 12:9 (the Father of spirits)

• John 4:24; John 20; John 21; Luke 24:39 (the risen Christ)

• Revelation 1:10–20; Revelation 4:1

• Proverbs 20:27 (the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord)

• Hebrews 1:14; Matthew 1:20; Matthew 18:10; Acts 12:13–17 (angels)

• 2 Kings 6:8–17 (Elisha — more with us than with them)

• Ephesians 6:10–18 (the whole armor of God)

• Acts 16:16–18 (the spirit of divination)

• 2 Timothy 1:7 (not a spirit of fear)
