  • Who owns the African Story and Creativity?
    18 Oct 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note and I promise to return your calls. Thank you and keep them coming!

Recently, the US Embassy in Nigeria, through its new Consul General Hudspeth engaged Nigerian creators-music, fashion, music etc industries- in an initiative to build a connection between Hollywood and Nollywood. An impactful partnership, collaboration or joint initiative in the creative industries would always yield substantive political, economic and social dividends if properly done. In this episode we set out to add our voices and opinion on how such collaboration may evolve symbiotically, sustainable and jurisprudentially.

I stared with a background of an article I wrote in 2020 on this theme which would help our listening have a broader understanding of the episode-Netflix Naija: creative freedom in Nigeria’s emerging digital space?

I begin a special series of answering questions sent to us by listeners. This Season 2 Episode 6, answers the question: "How do I protect a Nollywood film's copyright across several African countries?"

Further check out my website (Prof. Samuel Samiái Andrews, SJD, LL.M, LL. B (Hons), BL, LL.M) and YouTube Channel ( A Guide to Intellectual Property Law and the African Film Industry) "Legal Environment of Filmmaking" for detail presentations that answers this question.
