What does it really mean to collect art? Is it simply about owning beautiful pieces, or can collecting become a powerful act of advocacy, cultural preservation, and resistance?

In this thought-provoking episode of Art in June: Delicacies of Society Podcast, host June sits down with Paul Henderson, an attorney, art collector, curator, and advocate whose passion for equity extends from the justice system into the art world.

With nearly two decades of experience collecting art, Paul challenges the idea that art ownership is reserved for the wealthy and well-connected. Together, June and Paul explore the barriers that keep everyday people out of galleries and museums, the lack of representation for Black artists and women, and the responsibility collectors have to support the creatives whose work they acquire.

From holding cultural institutions accountable to creating opportunities for emerging artists, this conversation challenges us to rethink who gets access to art, who determines its value, and whose stories are preserved for future generations.

In Episode III, June heads to Art Front Galleries in Newark, New Jersey, for a day centered around art, community, creativity—and the mind behind it all.

Hosted by Jae Quinlan and Genesis Tramaine, the exhibition brings together local creatives and provides the backdrop for a deeper conversation about the role mental health plays in the artistic process.

June sits down with Biesie Kofi, The Ghost Jay, and Johnny Sango to explore emotional regulation, the importance of therapy, self-awareness, and the ways passion and mental health are often directly connected. Through each artist’s perspective, the conversation reveals how understanding yourself can become just as important to the creative process as mastering your craft.

It’s an honest look at what it means to create while navigating the emotions, pressures, and experiences that shape us—with art and community serving as spaces for reflection, expression, and connection.

Art. Community. Awareness. Regulation.
