Google announced on October 15 that its News AI pilot program has expanded to more than 400 participating media outlets worldwide. CNN, the Financial Times, Forbes, and Axios are among the newly reported participants. Under these partnerships, publishers provide Google with expanded rights to use their content for AI-powered features, including article summaries and audio briefings. The financial terms of the agreements have not been disclosed.

The initiative comes as news organizations explore licensing deals with AI companies while also pursuing legal action over the use of copyrighted material. These efforts reflect publishers’ concerns about declining search-driven traffic and their attempts to develop new sources of revenue from their journalism.
