Widowhood Isn't the End of Your Story

A Widow's Life with Vickie and Cindy

Losing your husband changes everything, but it doesn't mean your story is over. There is still joy to discover, friendships to build, and purpose to find.

In this episode of A Widow's Life with Vickie and Cindy, Vickie and Cindy welcome special guest Imelda Beatty, a military widow who shares her journey through heartbreaking loss, grief, healing, and finding a new purpose in life.

After 41½ years of marriage, Imelda lost her husband, Mark, to COVID-19 in 2021. Because of hospital restrictions, she was unable to be by his side during his final 11 days. His unexpected passing left her facing not only overwhelming grief but also financial uncertainty and difficult decisions about her future.

Through her faith in God, the support of family and friends, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities, Imelda began rebuilding her life.

Today, she's found joy in creating meaningful friendships, organizing trips and adventures with other widows, and building a supportive community where no one has to face life alone.

Imelda also shares how writing her book, Yea Though I Walk Through the Valley, helped her process painful experiences and share her testimony of God's faithfulness.

In this episode, you'll hear about:

    • The unique experiences of being a military wife and widow.
    • Coping with the sudden loss of a spouse after more than four decades of marriage.
    • Navigating grief, financial challenges, and major life changes.
    • How faith and trusting God's direction can provide strength during difficult times.
    • The importance of friendship, fellowship, and community after losing a spouse.
    • Finding the courage to make plans, travel, and enjoy life again.
    • How simple acts of kindness and connection can become a ministry to others.
    • Discovering that widowhood can be the beginning of a meaningful new chapter.

A reminder for every widow listening:

You don't have to have everything figured out. Sometimes finding your way forward begins with something as simple as inviting a friend to lunch, taking a walk with a neighbor, or saying yes to a new adventure.

God still has a plan for your life, and there can be beautiful moments ahead.

  • Can I Have Joy Again? Finding Joy in the Middle of Grief (Episode 51)
    8 Oct 2026

After loss, it can feel like joy disappeared with the life you once knew. But is it possible to experience real joy again while you are still grieving?

In this episode of A Widow’s Life, Vickie and Cindy are joined by their friend Imagene for a heartfelt conversation about the difference between happiness and biblical joy, and how joy can remain present even in seasons of sorrow.

They discuss how joy is more than an emotion. It is rooted in God’s presence, the Holy Spirit, gratitude, praise, obedience, laughter, and the assurance that God is still with us—even in the hardest moments. They also share personal stories of loss, provision, friendship, and the ways God has carried them through difficult seasons.

    You’ll hear encouragement about:

    • How grief and joy can exist at the same time
    • Why joy is not dependent on your circumstances
    • Rekindling joy through praise and gratitude
    • The importance of choosing to rejoice even when you don’t feel like it
    • How serving and encouraging others can bring joy back into your own life
    • The power of laughter during difficult seasons
    • Why protecting your joy also helps protect your strength and faith
    • Trusting God to provide, rescue, redeem, and walk with you through every storm

If you have wondered, “Will I ever feel joy again?” this episode is a reminder that grief does not mean joy is gone forever. There can still be beauty to notice, goodness to find, laughter to experience, and joy to rediscover as you continue walking with God.

As Vickie reminds us, “The joy of the Lord is our strength.”

Listen in and be encouraged that sorrow does not get the final word.
