The Girl Who Signed Every Card with Hearts and RainbowsJulie Pofsky has always been a dreamer. Her mom still laughs about the little girl who covered every card in hearts, rainbows, and flowers, and her elementary school teachers were not always thrilled with how much she talked in class. But looking back after a recent milestone birthday, Julie sees that those early traits were never a distraction. They were a preview. Raised in a sporty, outdoorsy family where the one rule was do what makes you happy, Julie learned early that personal connection is what makes her tick and shine. She also remembers watching her mom volunteer at school and quietly give every Sunday, small moments that taught her we are all in this together. After college, with a public relations degree and a passion for environmental science, she landed in Telluride, Colorado, working alongside her first mentor, a true spitfire who pivoted from outdoor industry PR to local conservation work and brought Julie along for the ride. It was there Julie first saw what becomes possible when one person decides to use her voice and invites a whole community in.Fundraising Is Really About ConnectionNobody majors in fundraising, and Julie is honest about how she fell into it. Her early work in community organizing taught her that the most meaningful conversations never start with an ask. They start with an introduction, then education, then helping someone discover where they want to plug in and the difference they want to make. Julie shares why the hardest part of her job has nothing to do with money and everything to do with not reaching every person who wants to help, and why she believes everyone deserves to be asked, whether they give $5 or $1 million. It Does Not Have to Be InevitableJulie walks Joanne through the story of Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, founded 34 years ago by Andrea Martin, who was diagnosed with breast cancer with no family history and went searching for answers. What she uncovered was a growing body of evidence linking toxic chemicals in our environment to breast cancer. Julie shares the statistic that stops people in their tracks: only about 10% of breast cancer cases can be traced back to family history. She also talks about the rising rates among younger women and why that has so many people asking what has changed. But this conversation is ultimately one of hope. Just as we put warning labels on cigarettes and took lead out of gasoline, Julie believes real change is possible through science, policy, and pressure on the market. And for anyone who wants to make a difference but does not know where to begin, she offers simple advice: find what you truly care about, show up, and take one more step.Connect with Julie Pofsky on LinkedInBreast Cancer Prevention Partners: AboutGet Involved with BCPPWays to Give to BCPPVolunteer with BCPPCampaign for Safe CosmeticsChapters00:00 Welcome to Trust Your Innersense03:44 Looking Back on the First 50 Years06:29 Finding Her Voice in Telluride10:01 Fundraising Is Really About Connection13:22 What Is Breast Cancer Prevention Partners?17:07 Why Real Change Is Possible19:22 The Statistic That Stops People in Their Tracks22:36 The Hardest Part of Fundraising25:37 Learning Generosity from Her Mom26:58 Where to Begin If You Want to Give Back28:58 Using Connection as a Force for GoodLet’s chat! podcasts@innersensebeauty.com Join the Innersense™ Communityhttps://innersensebeauty.com/pages/newsletter-sign-up Let’s Stay Connectedhttps://www.instagram.com/joannestarkman https://www.instagram.com/innersenseorganicbeauty/ https://www.instagram.com/innersensepro/ https://www.facebook.com/InnersenseOrganic/ https://www.youtube.com/c/InnersenseOrganicBeauty Clean hair care & body productsUse code JOANNE15 to save 15% on first purchases at https://innersensebeauty.com/Want to elevate your salon?
