    Description

A Kingdom held hostage. A thief lost in time. The battle to seal Elsewhere has begun.

The villainous Drad Redstar has won the favor of king and country after leading a decisive victory over the rebels at Winde Port. Now with a seat on the royal council, he condemns Torsten to a lifetime in the dungeon and invites his militant people to take up residence in the capital. But not all light has been squelched. There is one disgraced King’s Shieldsman left who remains loyal to Torsten, and only he can help free the Glass Kingdom from Redstar and his dark desires to revive the Buried Goddess.

Across the known world, Sora deals with the loss of her one and only friend. She seeks out a Mystic of the Panping; someone who can help her figure out what really happened to Whitney in a journey that illuminates her past and present. With the true nature of magic revealed to her, she finds that Whitney is lost in Elsewhere, the world between worlds, and she’ll stop at nothing to bring him back.

As magic and war collide in Will of Fire, the third installment in the Buried Goddess Saga, the fate of the entire world will change.

    Series keeps getting better

I received a copy of this book for review, but I leave this review of my own accord.

The first two books in this series are quite good, but they are a bit short and so character development can be a little lacking, but they are otherwise well-written and a lot of fun. This third installment, though, really makes up for the lack of character development, especially in Whitney.

I enjoyed all four of the character arcs presented, and I was pleasantly surprised once I realized the 'main cast' seemed to be expanding to include another character receiving narrative chapters. Each character has their own journey to go on. Redemption, realization, leaning about their past, etc. All of it is well done.

I fully expected this to be the last book of the series, but now I cant wait for the next one.

    Whitney's Back at it Again

Will of Fire continues the great world building of the Buried Goddess Saga and left me wanting the next book to be released already! I was very satisfied with the backstory we got for both Whitney and Sora and loved the conclusion to a main story arc (no spoilers here!). It's been an adventure getting to see the main characters grow from book to book and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what new messes Whitney gets himself into and seeing how Sora will bail him out.

Great continuation of the series. Now with Pirates

How do you take an already awesome epic fantasy series and make it better? Add pirates. And they were a great addition, I really enjoyed them in this book, I hope they come back in later books. Book three was a great addition to the series that kept me thoroughly engaged from start to finish, that being said, as with the previous books, this book leaves a lot unanswered. So now I am eagerly awaiting book four. I appreciated how a couple more of the characters got elevated to main characters, and have their own dedicated chapters now. Luke Daniels’ narration is excellent as always. Definitely worth a listen.

    Brilliant in every way

Mounting conflict. Higher stakes. Book three did something I didn't think possible: it got better than 1 and 2. Winds of War was incredible, but Book three does so much to grow characters. I've seen people complain a bit in book 1 reviews (web of eyes) that there wasn't enough character development. They failed to realize the authors thoughtfully calculated this series to build steadily without overwhelming the reader. This is like a great season on Netflix or something. Beautifully done.

    Bravo!

    Solid 4 stars

The first 2 books had solid endings, but this one I felt like it left off on too much of a cliff hanger, especially for Zora. The story progression was good, we learned a lot about Zora and her powers, but at the end I was left with too many questions. Still a great read and look forward to hopefully Audible picking up the rest. Once again the narration was great and helped bring the characters to life. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

    Each is better and better

This is the third book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I can’t wait to listen to another.
I love the Riyria Chronicles by Michael J Sullivan, and this series has the same feel despite the valiant knight and whimsical thief are not directly partners in this book.
Each main character (Torsten, Sora, and Whitney) is strong and has a well thought out story thread of their own. Their paths take their own tangent and each has a separate experience, yet this does not complicate the book- it enhances it! More is at stake, further turmoil is peering over the next chapter and I can’t wait to listen to it. Each book gets better and better!,

This is the twelfth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Luke Daniels ). His vast array of voices compliment this book and I love how he has brought out the characters personalities-especially Whitney! I can’t help but laugh at the dialogue from him and the way Luke delivers it.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

    Enthralling third installment

The third installment of the Buried Goddess Saga and the most interesting by far!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Luke Daniels, who continues to do a phenomenal job of enlivening the characters and taking this story to the next level. His performance is at its best here.

The story continues with Sora, Whitney, Torsten, but also adds in the story of Rand, who you might remember from the first couple books as one of the knights under Torsten (that's all I'll say in case you haven't read them yet).

The evolution of Whitney through this part of the story really added to the story. I loved seeing him grow. He has always been the one I felt was most open to growth and it was satisfying to see him actually do it, even if it did take some extremes of circumstance.

The story of Sora is compelling, but frustrating. Her blinders are securely on the whole time. She has a very black and white view of right/wrong and it makes her inflexible. I almost wish she had a little more cunning to her, but her innocent clinging to morality does make her who she is and that's fine, even if I do yell at her in my mind to chill out and just listen.

I felt like the portrayal of the mystics makes them a little too inhuman, even if Lady Jaya tempers it a little. Again, I felt like the characterization there felt a little flat. It would nice to see some layeredness to their actions/words that makes you wonder if what they do is correct or not. The line between good and evil is just a little too solid for me and the ending with Sora and them honestly felt muddy, even with it being a cliffhanger.

Torsten and Rand's interwoven story is good, but the least interesting part of the tale, even if it does lead to a climax fight. I wasn't wholly glued to what happened there, though, because it felt too inevitable. I was more interested in what was happening with Whitney and Sora so the fate of the Glass Kingdom was a little meh. It could have been more exciting again if there was a thinner line between good and evil! Like I keep wondering if the buried goddess is evil or misunderstood and if the Drav Kava are misguided or actual crazed fanatics with a bloodthirst, but then it seems like the story just wants me to accept that they're 100% unforgivably awful and that's kinda boring, honestly, because isn't it inevitable good will prevail?

Maybe I'm a little disillusioned and want the story to reflect the greyness I see in real life instead of escaping into the safety of good-triumphs-evil and maybe these clever authors are setting us up for the surprise of a lifetime, but that said it still feels a littttttle flat for me because of this point.

Regardless, though, I do really enjoy these stories. Even if I feel they're missing some depth, they're solid escapism fantasy adventure and tons of fun. And the audiobook is complete earcandy. It's basically the best kind of fantasy junk food and I will continue to devour it. Already downloaded the ebook of the 4th installment to begin because I can't wait for the audiobook release in a couple months. I'll buy and listen to it, too, even if I finish reading first.

One of my favorite fantasy series to date!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is the best book of the series, so far. I loved the pirates. It really mixed things up for the story line and kept me as engaged as can be. I have really enjoyed seeing where the author is taking this series and can't wait to continue the series when the next one is released on audio book. In large part, this is a credit to the fantastic narration by Luke Daniels. He really knows how to bring a book to life.

    An Exciting Evolution

I think that I wouldn't be alone if I said that I expected this to be a trilogy, but the books play out in such a way that the universe and characters can continue to expand. Everything about the way this book continues to improve on the first two, making me hopeful and excited for the upcoming sequel! I feel as though Rhett and Jaime have a rhythm going and have really learned to work together to get a series that feels fun to read.

It's hard to know what to say without constituting a spoiler, but what I've really enjoyed in particular about this book is that it feels like so much real growth has occurred. This series is a long ways from what it was when it first started, having progressively gotten more intricate, showcasing a lot of despair where everything felt light-hearted before even when things got serious. I love in this book how Whitney has grown, learning to manage himself while still being a loveable rogue. I love how Torsten gets taken down a peg, being forced to realize that not all decisions are black and white, and how a bad decision made for a good reason is still a bad decision. And, I'm excited to see Casimere again; hopefully in a more permanent basis! The upire really grows on you. I'm really looking forward to seeing how everything continues to change from here!

    Just Listen To The Magic!

From the get-go, the novel roped me and wouldn't let me go. Luke Daniels is such a world-class performer and he really brought to life a story that was already truly fantastic (I don't use that term lightly). I'm very eager now for book 4! This saga simply is not what I'd expected from a fantasy series (I've read few). I mean, the first book was good and the second was even better! Now, the third has delivered in spades! Not going to leave any spoilers--just get a copy and enjoy the ride!
