    Description

Number one New York Times best-selling author J.R. Ward is heating things up this winter with a holiday novel featuring some of her most iconic Black Dagger Brothers.

When Trez lost his beloved to a tragic death (The Shadows, Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 13), his soul was crushed and his destiny seemed relegated to suffering. But when he meets a mysterious female, he becomes convinced his true love has been reincarnated. Is he right? Or has his grief created a disastrous delusion?

Therese has come to Caldwell to escape a rift with her bloodline. The revelation that she was adopted and not born into her family shakes the foundations of her identity, and she is determined to make it on her own. Her attraction to Trez is not what she’s looking for, except the sexy Shadow proves to be undeniable.

Has fate provided a grieving widower with a second chance...or is Trez too blinded by the past to see the present for what it really is? In this sensual, arresting book full of the themes of redemption and self-discovery, two lost souls find themselves at a crossroads where the heart is the only compass that can be trusted...but that may require a courage that neither of them possesses.

    Good Closure

The Good: For BDB fans whose hearts were crushed by The Shadows (and come on we all were) this is a wonderful balm of closure. Yes, there are miracle and mystical elements at play but even as an atheist I did not find it heavy handed or preachy.

The Missing: One of the reasons I am a rabid (yes I get shots) Ward fan is her humor and her world building/continuation. There is little of this here. Some humor with Lassiter- naturally- and we get to see Rhage and Mary together but that’s about it. The yearning that exists as I wait for another BDB book was not quenched by this one. A first for me. I feel like I am just now waiting for the Sinner- speaking of which.

The Extra: We get the first chapter of The Sinner! Thank you Santa!

The Other Talent: Jim Frangione is sheer perfection

WARNING: If the holidays are particularly hard for you due to loss I am not sure this will make you feel better- you might want to wait till after holiday time to listen.

ONCE AGAIN A FIVE ⭐️ FAULTLESS PNR

Every single time I see that this talented author is going to release another new book in her iconic BDB series I can’t wait to get my greedy paws on it because, after seventeen books in the series, I already know it’s going to be all-consuming, it’s going to have highly charged chemistry and it’s going to be epic. And this two lost souls adrift from one-another didn’t disappoint. There were no Lessers, no Omega or other evil threats.. but the relationship between Therese and Trez was enough of a rollercoaster to keep you glued to the unfolding chapters as they both struggled strange feelings of déjà vu.. of coming home.. of two lost souls connecting again as they finally embraced the miracle they had been given.

There’s everything you’d expect from this author.. sharp slick comments, alpha vampire behaviour, sex, angst, drama, pulse-pounding passion, intrigue, suspense and much much more in Caldwell USA between the lost and alone Shadow Walker and his waitress soul-mate salvation. J.R’s world-building continues to grow, her imagination has no walls and her writing skills are endless as she invites you back to the city you know so well and reacquaints you with well-loved characters from the past whilst introducing you to new ones too. Primarily told in dual POV chapters and once again Jim Frangione was brilliant at conveying the raw emotions, smoothly bringing each scene and its characters to life and delivering a 5 star performance.

Worth a credit? Yes, Therese and Trez’s emotionally rocky road to each other didn’t go smoothly.. but it was heartwarming that Trez can finally stop mourning his Queen. I stumbled across Dark Lover (book 1) back in 2011 and ever since I’ve been impressed by, and hooked firmly into, the BD Brotherhood because each stunning story is unique, compelling and seamlessly flows to the next one without feeling stale.. and then they leave you craving more.

    Just call me Lasiclaus

With how The Shadows ended I was so looking forward to this book. Selena and Trez deserved a better conclusion than what they got, and J R found a way to make it work. This is more of a second chance romance rather than a BDB novel. So there's no fighting, it's more focus on their relationship and accepting the amazing miracle that both Trez and Therese got. Jim Frangione narration just keeps getting better, I enjoyed this Caldwell Christmas.

    Nothing happens

Hours and hours of waiting for SOMETHING to happen in the story. Nope. Nada. Nothing. It is essentially page after page of description about how the main lead character looks just like a dead woman, and the guy trying to get over it. Big surprise they eventually get over it. Also the main female lead character is not sympathetic as Her entire circumstances is based on her being a little brat.

    A Heartwarming Miracle!

I really love this book. J R Ward has put so much love, and emotions into the storyline that you are on a virtual roller coaster of feelings. Jim Frangione does such a marvelous narration that you are right there with the characters laughing and crying and totally absorbed. I very highly recommend this book.

Predictable and depressing. Not worth credit.

I have never struggled to finish any any of Wards novels but this one was an exception. It was just too depressing and it read like a formula. I wanted to care more about Trez, but I just couldn't. Instead of sounding like he was in pain, he just sounded whiny. Iam's story was so much better.

    HEA, finally

I loved The Shadows, Trez and Iam. I loved this book also and maybe a tad bit more. We see in this book our totally devastated Trez, coping with an attraction to Therese, the spitting image of his beloved Selena. How is it that she looks so much like his beloved not just to him but to others of the BDB. The two must cope with this attraction as Therese is drawn to him just as much as he is to her. Two lost souls struggling to come to terms with something neither completely understands. And just what part does the ever intriguing Lassiter have to play in all of this? A fantastic read.

🌻Not as good as most of her work!🌻

    🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻V from Kansas🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Compared to most of the BDB novels, this book reads more like a novella. It ends abruptly and is shallow, compared to most books, in the series. However, it is in the BDB world and is performed by one of the most talented narrators of all time, so it’s still worth a spot in my library.

    Never a disappointment

The Warden does it again...not surprisingly. This book isn't packed with action and brotherhood business but it's just as good. Trez 's story continues. His loss left me in tears but he finds a way back from the brink of suicide and finds love again. I love this story and I'm so happy that Trez is back...in full form. Jim Franggione is. the perfect narrator. I don't think the books would be the same for me if anyone else narrated. Good job!!!

    Perspective

Too less character (perspective) changes. There is a lot of character story that ive been missing here.
