What a Life!!! is the extraordinary memoir of David Chinery, a man who packed five careers into one lifetime and never stopped chasing the next horizon.Born in 1943, David’s journey begins in wartime Grantham and takes readers through the engine rooms of oil tankers, the research labs of a global oil company, and the skies above Florida. He survived scarlet fever, commanded ships through war zones, and invented technology that changed how the world pumps oil. Then he reinvented himself, becoming a pioneer in electric model aircraft, a writer for a legendary aviation magazine, and later, a Registered Childminder who cared for over 50 children and ran a successful playgroup for 16 years.Along the way, David escaped arrest for “spying” in Beirut, flew a Spitfire, broke his neck cycling, had his heart valve replaced while awake, and found love again at 76.This is not just a memoir of achievements, it is a story of relentless curiosity, reinvention, and the courage to walk into unfamiliar worlds. From the sweltering heat of the Persian Gulf to the quiet joy of a toddler’s first steps, What a Life!!! is an inspiring, warm, and often funny account of a life lived at full throttle.Perfect for readers who love stories of adventure, engineering, aviation, and the unexpected turns of an extraordinary life.©2026 David Chinery (P)2026 David Chinery Travel Writing & Commentary
